Got water in my oil this year. Changed it twice with cheap oil and sea foam added to the oil both times. The third change was the proper oil and clean.

    Inboard/ I/O Engine Hoist Ideas?

looks like a good setup/ He said the weak link is the pully but, I think the upper chain hooks on the beam need to be true welded loops. The ones on there are chain link's and can bend.

    Blister repair .

Ah, didn’t know that it was all glass. Good to know. Yeah the blisters will be an easier fix, but as suggested, bottom paint is a good idea.

    Blister repair .

Boats have wood structure under the glass. You can test it by drilling small holes in the stringer about a 5/16" drill bit will work. Go in about 1/2" and see if the wood shavings are black and mushy, if so, the wood is rotted. If the shavings come out dry and clean, its good. Seal the holes...

Mercruiser Sterndrive Gear Oil Leaking by Prop

Yeah there is bolts on some, they make the head smaller to be able to get the socket in. Don’t see it real often but they are out there.

    I need a tool, don't know what it's called...

Those welding torch cleaners work sort of, they can damage the hole you are checking and cleaning. That's what they are designed for, cleaning torch tips.

Mercruiser Sterndrive Gear Oil Leaking by Prop

yes, that is the shift shaft seal I mentioned. They make a tool for that also, common place to have a leak. You can pressure check it by holding your finger over the quad ring hole and pressurizing it, 15 lbs is all you need for testing. good to have a helper but I do it regularly by myself...

Mercruiser Sterndrive Gear Oil Leaking by Prop

With the oil drained, pressure check the drive first. spritz of soapy water will show you where it’s leaking. Shift shaft is rather common on those, easy fix if that’s all it is.

14 foot jon boat with 8 hp motor almost plane.

i have an 8 hp on my 10 footer. It’s rated for 10. Always wanted to put a ten on it but the 8 makes it move along quickly with just me in the boat. I’ve had this boat in Canada and many lakes in the states, with two onboard it’s not too bad either. Never a fan of fishtails on the motor myself...

Engine Alignment tool goes in about 1/4 of the way, question.

Once you get the bar in the coupler completely, what I did was make a paint mark on the shaft with red paint. Next time you are checking it, if the bar goes in completely and easily, you are good to go.

Do you guys think this prop and rudder have been in salt water ? From a moomba 2007 LSV

Check inside the boat around the engine area, look at wiring connections and thru-hull fittings, look good at them. Any saltwater boats I've seen have green corroded parts inside the boat as well.

Engine Alignment tool goes in about 1/4 of the way, question.

Misinterpretation? He said if it bottoms out in the gimble bearing. I think he meant the coupler. Going in one inch isn't aligned. I've seen a few that were at different shops that were serviced and claimed things were fine, but they were not.

Single point drain leaks. Serious? Eliminate it?

Those blue plugs don't have a washer. It's an O-ring. it needs to be the proper size to seat properly.

Engine Alignment tool goes in about 1/4 of the way, question.

The bolt holes on the coupler may have gotten hammered also, along with the original bolts. which would make it not set in place properly.

Well it happened. Water in oil

I did not check the manifold yet. It’s getting up to temp better than before as I did change the thermostat this spring, 140* . I’ll change the oil, but when I do it I add sea foam to the mix and it helps the cleaning out a lot. When we get those at the marina that sank or such the sea foam...
