Re: '61 Crestliner Arabian Deluxe resto I work at a cabinet shop that uses maple all the time for the doors and drawer fronts including the face frame of the cabinet. So they throw away more than I could ever use. I understand about dimensional strength though. The reason I keep going back to...

Re: '61 Crestliner Arabian Deluxe resto What are the best primer/painting products to use on this old girl? I was thinking a roll and tip application, but I need to understand the preping process and the various steps involved. Can anyone direct me? Also, I was thinking about the interior...

Re: '61 Crestliner Arabian Deluxe resto Well, I'm done with the controls except for clear coat. I usually let the paint cure for about two days before I clear it. What do you think?

1960 Mirrocraft project. Don't know where to start??

Re: 1960 Mirrocraft project. Don't know where to start?? I believe that control box lever that broke off is to increase idle speed while in neutral. The V4 is a gas hog, but are you sure that you want to split up the "team"? As to a better motor, my vote is for the beautiful old motor that's on...

Re: '61 Crestliner Arabian Deluxe resto Good to know, thanks. Well I totally messed up the white paint on the throttle. During the second coat of white, paint was not stirred up enough and came through the sprayer in a thick stream. The shifter is ok. Is there some way of fiberglassing in these...

Re: '61 Crestliner Arabian Deluxe resto Not too expensive is good since I have NO money. I took them out and saved everything. Plus, I am refinishing the control box, I'll post pix on flickr page too. The ends of the cables are the only thing specific to the control box? I sprayed them with...

Re: '61 Crestliner Arabian Deluxe resto Here's another shot. This really was worth all the effort. The pictures don't show the smooth glossy clear coat finish that well. Next thing is to build the rotisserie and stand for when she's topside down. I have the sanding tools, but still have to get...

Re: '61 Crestliner Arabian Deluxe resto Epoxy glued the chip back on, filled all of the little cracks too. Four coats of paint and two coats of clear. I am keeping the old center piece original for effect. What do you think?

Re: '61 Crestliner Arabian Deluxe resto Took off the controls, they are in pretty good shape. I think I will keep these and refurbish. New cables of course. Are they worth keeping, or should I replace them? Still working on the steering wheel, it is stuck on there good.

Well after many months in the "Johnson outboard" repair forum. The engine is done! (anyone who wants to see that can follow the other thread) Now on to the boat. I promised that I would start a thread here so here I am. I also noticed a thread in the instruction sticky, that had before and after...

    My Johnson is leaking

There is a weird hole on the port side of the engine. I am pointing to it with the screwdriver in the photo. It only leaks after a test run in the tank. It is leaking an oily fluid. Where is this coming from?

The motor is now running. Is the clear fuel bowl supposed to be full all the time? I think I have an air leak in the primer ball. Click the link to see the motor running, sometimes it sputters or backfires a bit. I think it is starving for gas. 1959 Johnson Super Sea Horse "Fat 50" - YouTube

Should the prop be off the motor when running in a tank?

I am going to test the engine this weekend. I am going to have the lower unit submerged in a trash can. Do I need to take off the prop? and I am also going to seafoam it. I thought that I'd put some in the trash can water and some in the fuel mix. What are the pros and cons of seafoam?
