    If you never had a kill switch at this location, it may be a provision for a futur install, blocked by a plug, that got lost at some point. My Volvo shifter has the kill switch but just below. On the picture, I removed the switch to replace it with a new one.

    I did some research last summer when I changed mine on my 2004 5.7 Gi-D. I had 41-983 which is a double platinum plug. I replaced them with 41-993 which is iridium (last longer). Boat ran well the whole summer.
