    1970 Evinrude 18hp Trottle issue

Just to circle back on this motor and completed the following: -I had split the case, replaced the rings, honed cly's, and new head gasket. -Checked the carb for the 6th time over and high speed jet is clear. -Ohms tested the coils and .007-.006 (going off memory-out of town). -Points...

    1970 Evinrude 18hp Trottle issue

I appreciate the detail.. yes, went through the carb 3 times and the low & high speed fuel circuits are clear. I'll check the timing and see whats going on. Strange thing is right at 3/4 throttle it dies off fast but gradually like its running out of fuel. The pump is new and there is fuel...

Here is the head and gasket. Looks pretty solid and no signs of loosing compression. cyclosp mentioned: black oil. What is the story behind that?

Yes, I usually give it at least that to build the most pressure.

Wouldn't water be entering if bad? Where would the compression be going..through the water passage?

Here's from my scoping tool: walls look great.. without splitting the case, and given the year, would you throw the chips on tired rings? same compression on both cyl's.

Okay, triple checked the compresson and getting 70psi on both. Assuming they both should be 110-120?

I have a 1970 Evinrude 18hp outboard bogging down issue going to open throttle. I have double checked the high speed fuel circuit and still having simular issue. I have reset the points to a snug 20 thousanths and same issue. The engine sounds a little clunky when at idle and not real smooth...

Merc 115 stalls. Fuel gauge reads empty, but is full.

I am not an expert here or know your system, but usually an indication of 'empty' when you have the fuel in it, is a failed tank sender or connection issue. Fuel gauge reads whats in the tank and has no bearing on the line connected. Very strange that normal operation once the hose was replaced.

    '00 Mercury 90hp, 4-Stroke ---Surge at WOT?

2000 Mercury 90hp, 4-Stroke. I've noticed a slight surge of hp when I start to back off from wot when operating this today. Also right around that wot, it seemed to be sensitive and shown moments of more power that came and went. Could this be my TPS failing? Is there a known test for the...

    Throttle control stiff

Not a cable expert but have come across some that the first 3' is a non-marine grease used and starts to harden up. Gentle heat gun, I mean gentle!! Some penetrant spray...

04' Yamaha 225hp- Seastar System I am looking for a spacer for my system HC5345 steering cylinder and there is a 1/2" gap, or play when I turn the wheel. I really don't know the correct spacing for this particular setup but it seems like a lot when I turn the wheel back and forth. I'm...
