    Install the trim / tilt ( 2 wire motor ) of the 82 on the 78.----Install the 82 electrical bits on the 78 as well.-----Trim and tilt switch on the 78 control can stay.

    The magneto on that motor was first installed in 1950.----Installed for the next 40 years on motors from 1.5 to 40 HP.---An elegantly simple / easy to maintain unit.----That is an opinion shared by many people.

    I think pictures of it were posted long ago.-----Great motors but the 68 ( first year ) suffered from thin / weak piston skirts.----Also a weak piston assembly on shift solenoid.

    That 6 hp was from 1965 to 79.----But a complete 5.5 hp lower unit from 1954 to 64 can also be used with minor modifications.

    Survey

    Engine alignment is usually done out of the water ( new boat ) then time goes by and nature does it's thing as always.------Weak transom / stringers means that alignment on the trailer is NOT valid when boat is floating.----Or operating in rough seas.
