Yeah , I thinkin more if your alone on the boat ,if there are others aboard when you take an impromptu swim they would come back for you .......unless that was part of the plan (Humpty dumpty was pushed I tell ya )😆, but Im not liking the idea of being tethered , Im thinkin that the tether could...

1996 mercury 9.9 outboard, stalls when decelerating

Well ,obviously ,I thought , the piston ported engine doesn't have reeds to go wrong.🙂

Tbh I just been thinkin about this as I have yet to make my maiden voyage in my 3.8m inflatable/18hp Tohatsu and .....in a nutshell its so so so much easier and quite possibly less fatal to attach that lanyard than it would be to deal with falling out without it attached. The life jacket is a...

They should make boats so they go straight ahead when you fall out .

1996 mercury 9.9 outboard, stalls when decelerating

😁 Yes , it was an improvement over an exhaust port dumping into free space ,but your playing fast and loose with the term "tuned " 😁😁

1996 mercury 9.9 outboard, stalls when decelerating

Yeah? Not since the 80's . Im trying to think of even one 2 stroke that doesnt have reeds ,or discs as some Suzuki and Kwaka's did .....in the 70's . Chainsaws are piston ported. I guess one thing we should remember is that when these motors were designed or made no one gave a 5hit about...

1996 mercury 9.9 outboard, stalls when decelerating

I think that 2 stroke outboards are pretty crude compared to a 2 stroke motorbike engine . Im sure they did what they could exhaust wise but to get an effective exhaust scavenge it really needs one exhaust per cylinder........as evidenced by ALL 2 stroke bikes since the 60's. There simply isnt...

Yep , both above and below the piston 🙂

1996 mercury 9.9 outboard, stalls when decelerating

I thought the hole above the exhaust port was to act as a decompressor at cranking speeds , if anything it would make the idle worse . 2 stroke compression figures ( like 9.5:1) are static figures ie ,if you do the maths , in motion the effective comp ratio depends on the porting to some...

Wot onna 30hp johnson on the trailer

Ok ,I know of a few short ramps round here too.....Im meaning tidal. Mostly what we get there is gravel washed away from the end of the ramp and then someone drops the trailer off the end and cant pull it back up . I have noticed too that as more peeps get rollered trailers the whole drive on...

Wot onna 30hp johnson on the trailer

We have concrete ramps here 😁, but you sure can see where the jet boat boys launch on the river bed .....but the hole they dig is gone after the next river rise .

    Kicker Motor

My main reason for an aux motor is as a back up ,its also handy for trolling . Now that my main motor is a 4 stroke there is little point in using the aux for trolling economy-wise. Oh yeah .....and I couldnt get the Mrs to go fishing without the aux .......not that having wimmin in a small...

Disguising a Suzuki as a Mercury

I bet ya that if you put Mercury decals on the Suzuki nobody would realise anything was amiss at a casual look 😁

    cooking

I do all my roasts on a gas bbq with a lid , a weber Q .Im sure the water released while burning lpg ( you get 1.2l of water for every l of gas ) helps keep things moist and cook for 3-4 hrs at about 85-90⁰c. Beats cleaning the oven too🙂.

Wot onna 30hp johnson on the trailer

I was actually thinking about doing just about that ,(was going to mount it on my quad and back that into the river.)..sorta dyno testing ,but with a 6hp and an18hp. But you would want to make real sure you had it tied down coz if things go wrong it will happen real fast . Wind the power on...
