How to identify quicksilver repower engine size?

1999 Stingray 190LX, which came with a 190HP CARB A1 (as listed on MSRP sticker). My engine was replaced in 2004, with a quicksilver repower engine. All numbers that I have are listed below. He said it now has a 4bbl carb and is larger. How can I determine if it's still a 190HP 2bbl, or if...

4.3 Merc valve cover gasket replacement

Greetings - I found moisture around the valve cover seam. I suspect that the valve cover gasket needs to be replaced. Questions: This seems trivial to replace, but wanted to check to see if I'd get a "jack in the box" explosion upon removal. Do I need to remove/reinstall the exhaust manifold to...

gear oil in outflow or residual oil from sloppy service?

I just swapped my lower shifting cable, and changed the water pump while the lower unit was disassembled. I've performed this service multiple times and have been methodical and careful with assembly, using pins, and proper torque. I'm highly confident that everything was installed correctly...

    Tune up schedule for 2004 Mercruiser 4.3L 225hp 4bbl

I found "Ignition system - Clean and Inspect condition" = every 100 hours. If it's running fine, is there a time frame or running hours where a full tune up is really required (including replacing Cap/rotor, etc) Thanks original engine SN: L332123 replaced with: 2004 Mercruiser 4.3L 225hp...

4.3 Alpha 1 Gen 2 - propeller spins in neutral only after reverse?

This is an obvious safety issue! In the water lately, the propeller continued to reverse after shifting from reverse to neutral. Forward to neutral seems fine. I tested this quickly in the driveway with muffs to verify, and it operated perfectly. Is this a sign of an aging lower...

4.3 - Is this what a cracked block looks like?

Kind sirs, My bilge pump fired up yesterday. I was quite surprised? and it kept firing. about 1/hour? 1-2 gallons of water. Upon first inspection, I found a poor seal and probably bad valve on a water line. This didn?t seem to be enough? Upon further inspection, found significant...

yoke o-rings: must replace when replacing impeller?

I've got everything I need to finish the job (today, which would be nice)....but, manual says replace 2 O-rings on the yoke (but not 3?) when installing the drive. They seem to be in good shape, as are the bellows. Everything was clean inside housing... just grease. Ok to lube and install...

4.3L t-stat replacement pics: normal or problem?

In the process of converting to 2 piece manifolds and was fixing an overheat issue. Figured I'd swap the t-stat while I'm at it, but I'm sure it was working fine, before. I'm not sure what normal looks like, but I'd appreciate if any of you experienced folks would kindly comment on these...

How to get flapper out of 4.3L pipe, without pulling bell housing?

Flapper broke off and 1/2 is stuck in-between the Y and the separated section of the pipe, just before the upward bend. I can move it freely about 4" farther back from where it is now, but it is too wide to get any further past that, either way. Vacuum - nope! Long flexible grabber - nope...

Alpha one gen 2: diagnosing overheating

Re: Alpha one gen 2: diagnosing overheating Please verify my understanding of the flow. It appears that the power steering line runs through the inside of the intake hose (assuming to cool the power steering fluid). That feeds into the t-stat. For some reason my starboard side manifold...

Alpha one gen 2: diagnosing overheating

er... Alpha 1 gen II Yesterday, had a hard time warming up. Idled ok, but when revved up, felt like she was going to stall. Eased back down then powered over it and she roared. Sounded like she had to push some sludge out, but she's clean and has been running fine. After that, no firing...
