Boat is put away for winter. What to do every day ?

I used to hunt some that way on a piece of BLM ground in AZ. They had a sign-in sheet at the gate but it was very unusual for anyone else to be out there. Harvested some good mule deer by parking and stalking. The main road in was maintained gravel but everything else was ranch trails. Sitting...

Boat is put away for winter. What to do every day ?

Here is another good one. A guy road hunting stopped and shot a deer in a field in plain view of the property owner’s house and they witnessed the deed. The owner asked the game warden to talk to the “hunter” about hunting on property without permission. While the game warden was talking to the...

Boat is put away for winter. What to do every day ?

I never had that problem on private land (other than road hunters). I am fairly sure I was responsible for a very nice tree stand disappearing from the back of a property. I was supposed to be the only one hunting back there. The back gate was left open with 4-wheeler tracks. I shut and wired...

Boat is put away for winter. What to do every day ?

I have to say I have a problem with road hunters. My dad and I were hunting in a tree line along a small lake. A doe and a buck ran out into the corn field between us and the road and a moron on the road sent bullets our way trying to shoot the deer between us. We saw what was happening so we...

Boat is put away for winter. What to do every day ?

The only good thing about snow is people pay well to have it moved!

Reminder to check gear before towing.

I pickup up one of the I/O ski boats from a maintenance shop. They had to lift the motor to replace the fuel pump so the big hinged engine cover had to be removed. About the time I hit 35 mph I watched it blow open. They had left the latch out when they reinstalled the cover. Fortunately, I had...

View of unloaded trailer with pickups

They sell them aftermarket. The old Nissan 1/2 ton pickup they had at work had one. The display was mounted to the dash. It disappeared after the second transmission went out. The Chevy 2500 Duramax that replaced the Nissan is a much better tow vehicle but no camera.

    Offer accepted

This sounds a lot like my current situation. After nearly 20 years and many tens of thousands of dollars, everything is finally about how we want it, my wife now thinks we are too far from family. I’m too old to start over so we will have to downgrade and have to sell the planes and probably the...

Reminder to check gear before towing.

When I was in my early twenties a bunch of us went tubing on a river one day. We had a pickup bed loaded with inflated inner tubes and 2 people. The driver liked to go fast and when he hit a hump one of the passengers in the back got launched. Fortunately for me, my leg got hung up in a tube and...

    Nobody fishing?

Sitting still in the cold never did much for me but it was better than just sitting in the house unless the wind was blowing. I never had a hut and don’t think I ever caught anything either. I was thankful for the gas powered ice auger with extension. Almost didn’t cut through a couple of times.

    Aluminum Boat Paint

I think zinc chromate went away nation wide or was so restricted no one could use it around 25 years ago. That’s when I started seeing zinc phosphate. I went to order some zinc phosphate a few years ago and zinc chromate had appeared in the search again. Otherwise I wouldn’t know it was out...

Cotter pin for Prop...Any one will do??

I would recommend stainless no matter where you are. I accidentally installed a plated cotter pin a couple of years ago while replacing a damaged prop. A month or so later the boat came in for oil change and the cotter pin had corroded bad. The split ends broke off instead of straightening for...

    Aluminum Boat Paint

Zinc Chromate is not banned in NY. There are some stringent regulations governing it. Most seem to revolve around the VOC’s. I don’t know if the rattle cans have the correct mix or not but if Amazon or other supplier will ship it to NY then I would think they do. Otherwise there are spray gun...

    Aluminum Boat Paint

If you use a wire wheel, it’s best it is stainless and never been used on anything else. We used “rivet cleaning discs” chucked into a drill motor to prep airplanes. Harbor Freight has a pretty good fiber wheel that should work but I haven’t tried it on aluminum yet.

Zinc Chromate is available. Zinc phosphate works too.

    Draw on battery 1

I am being lazy today so haven’t read everything posted in this thread. Apologies if I am duplicating someone. 3 things that seem to be commonly wired directly to a battery that can drain it are the radio memory (radio won’t work but must have constant power to keep time and/or save settings)...

No Center Attachment for Hauling onto the Trailer

I’m glad the power loading topic came up. I just searched the states where I have operated or intend to operate boats. Only one has a state law against it and I may be moving there so I’m glad I saw that. Of the others, none had a state law or regulation but one did mention it was up to the...

No Center Attachment for Hauling onto the Trailer

I haven’t heard of a law against power loading anywhere I have been. I will admit to not studying the boating regulations most places I have been, especially in states I just visited. I have seen 2 problems caused by power loading. One is the aforementioned pile that builds up on the ramp. The...

    Seized engine

It could have been hydro-locked which can lead to all kinds of fun things if it was actually ran that way. I had a friend 40 years ago think it would be fun to splash his truck through a puddle. Water made into the intake and trashed the engine. Bent connecting rods and the like. However, just...

    View from central Minnesota tonight

There were some good shots from southern Oklahoma Tuesday. We didn’t see it because we didn’t know about it. Tried to see them last night but couldn’t. I’m nearly 60 and have yet to see them except for when I was stationed in Alaska. It’s quite a show up there.
