    1967 9.8hp mercury flywheel

Hello all I’m working on a 1967 9.8hp mercury and I took the flywheel off and lost the nut. No idea where it went. Can anyone tell me what the thread size is so I can go to hardware store to get another one? Thanks Gary

    1976 25hp Johnson ignition question

Thanks for all the replies. I was torquing the flywheel at 40 ft. lbs. I took a closer look at the flywheel and thought the inside was a bit scored. I attached pictures of it. Can you tell if this is a problem? Gary

    1976 25hp Johnson ignition question

I'm back working on this motor and it is still breaking that woodruff key on the crank shaft. I'm getting good spark. Compression is good and I cleaned the carb. I also lapped the shaft and flywheel. It wants to start but it backfires first. The best way to describe it is that it pops and a...

    1954 10HP Johnson crank question

I did replace that carbon ring and the O ring that goes inside it. That part number matched up and fits. I saw that picture labeled impellar spacer on marine.com too and it added to my confusion. I do appreciate the help if someone knows the correct part number for that O ring.

    1954 10HP Johnson crank question

The part number for that O ring I got off the parts diagram and got the part off ebay. I've attached a picture of the two Orings. The one on the left is the one that came off the bearing. The one on the right is the new one I received using that part number. The new one is smaller and I do not...

    1954 10HP Johnson crank question

I'm working on this 1954 QD-15 10hp Johnson and wondered about an O ring on the crankshaft. If you look at the attached diagram, the O ring is part number 7. Is that supposed to go around the bearing or between the bearing and the seal? I ask because it was around the bearing when I took it...

    1976 25hp Johnson ignition question

I’m going to lap the flywheel this week but I also would like to know which set of points goes to which coil. This motor has the 2 coils on the side of the motor and the 2 set of points and another coil under the flywheel. How do I tell which points goes to the top and bottom coils? I would like...

    1976 25hp Johnson ignition question

I bought OMC 120395 keys and have 1 left. Hope lapping the tapers works. Those keys are pricey. Where can I find the torque specs?

    1976 25hp Johnson ignition question

So I got this motor running but it doesn't run for long. The problem now is that woodruf key on the crank shaft keeps breaking. I've replaced it 3 times. It seems to fit snug in both the crank and the flywheel. Any ideas why it keeps breaking?

    1954 10 johnson rebuild

thanks for all your inputs. I remember when it ran well, it would keep up with the newer motors. I think it will make a nice winter project

    1954 10 johnson rebuild

I have a 1954 10 hp johnson that I'm deciding whether to put new rings in it. It has become hard to start and the compression is about 60psi in each cylinder. I have cleaned the carb and changed out the points but doesn't run like it used to. It was a good running motor and I wonder if it would...

    Sea King Spark plugs

I'm working on a 1962 5hp Sea King and found it has a bad spark plug. The plug is J4C and the local auto stores don't carry that. I replaced both plugs with J6C. It starts and runs much better but I wonder if that is a correct plug to use. What plug is a suitable replacement? Thanks, Gary

    Fuel line size

I work on Johnson motors from the 60's-70's. What is the proper ID for a fuel line? Is there a difference in ID size between a 10hp and 25hp? Thanks, Gary

    1976 25hp Johnson ignition question

Sorry for the confusion but the motor is not stuck and does turn when pulled but it won't start. I mentioned the compression was about 90 and that was from pull starting it by hand. It does have electric start so I got a battery to run it and the compression is now 120lbs. I need try spraying...

    1976 25hp Johnson ignition question

So I cleaned up the points and set them them to .020, compression is about 90 in both cylinders, clean and rebuilt the carb and the fuel pump feeds fuel to carb but it will not start. There was a bit of oil on the coil plate. I cleaned that up and I am getting good spark but won't try to turn...

    1976 25hp Johnson ignition question

I'm getting things put back together and I was wondering what that white plastic piece is at the top left of the motor is and what it does? I ask because it looks like the tip of it is broken off.

    1976 25hp Johnson ignition question

Thanks for the information. I will assume that if that driver coil on the plate goes bad, you won't have spark on either coil. What should the compression be on each cylinder?

    1976 25hp Johnson ignition question

Hello all I normally work on the smaller hp motors but I was asked to work on a 1976 25hp Johnson that has sat for many years and won't start. Needless to say the ignition is a little different then a smaller hp motor. There are two blue coils on the side of the motor that go to the plugs and...
