Yes. There's a return line from the steering to the trim pump. There's a hole in the steering for the "in" line and I'm sure I had one hooked to it. Two lines from the outdrive and only two holes in the pump. I am missing something. I hooked the lines from the outdrive to the bottom of the pump. The outdrive was down and when I tried to raise it ,it sounded at the end of it's move so I switched the lines I was able to raise the outdrive but it won't go back down. And oil comes out of the steering "in" line.

The steering has a line to it and a return. It works. There's a hole with threads that was throwing me a curve on the bottom of the reservoir I also could not get the motor to turn over. The neutral safety switch was broken. I bypassed it until I can get one. First I have a mess to clean up. Tools, wires, oil, and assemble the sides etc. inside. I know this job is not complete until I dunk it in the lake.
The pic is dark. Too much sun.

Power steering has a pressure line from the power steering pump and a return line back to the P/S pump. That's why I'm confused about the trim pump and steering connection. There isn't any. Or there shouldn't be.

@Jasoutside. Was that post for me? @GA Boater. I'll check with someone who knows what I have. I thought I was hooking a line to the steering assembly.

Gdad edited it out before I got to view it...... The doofis making is just a happy coincidence.....:watermelon:

I do believe this is the missing pix in question:

This ^^^^ would be the reason for you 'needing' a serious chemical stripper.......

OK, I guess an explanation is in order! I copied Justin's photo into my Photobucket account in an attempt to brighten the picture. This is the first time that I've used Photobucket's picture editor, so I started poking around, just to see what it could do. So, in post #107 above, I replied to Justin as you see, but the original statement included a second sentence to the effect that Photobucket will also let you add stuff as well as change things like brightness and added that the devil made me do it. Then I posted the picture that you all can see in post #111 by jb. After I hit "Post Quick Reply", I viewed my post #107. To my disappointment the picture displayed was the original black image that Justin posted. I then edited the post, removing the picture and attempted to replace it with the correct one. Nope, the wrong one posted, even though I was very careful to correct what I thought was my mistake. So, I thought well I realy only wanted to mention that Photobucket has an editor that anyone could use to adjust their photos before posting, so I simply abbreviated my post and deleted the blackened picture. Note that Jason's post #108 was posted at the exact same time that I posted my edit. So, here I am now, following Justin's thread and I find that the photo that I tried to post and then deleted was in fact posted by jb. Gheesh. Sorrrrrry about that Jason, but it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. - Grandad

Justin - reason I'm asking about power steering, in post #96 the pic of your motor - It doesn't have a power steering pump on the motor. That's where my confusion about the hose to the steering is coming from. The trim pump would have to be running to provide power steering if there was a connection and at the same time with the trim pump running, the outdrive would be trimmed up or down depending on the direction the pump motor was running.

Look at the hydraulic diagram on page 1C-20 in this link. http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Servmanl/14/14c1.pdf. Only the two hoses from the pump to the manifold. In fact this is a a good manual to save. It covers a lot of troubleshooting. It may not be exactly for your Mercruiser, but there is a lot of common stuff across the line.

Re: 1976 Starcraft Chieftain 22ft. Cuddy Cabin Transom replace.

The iboats server email I get updates to threads from, includes the web address/link of pix when they are posted. Photobucket, Imur (or whatever that provider is), etc. I clicked thru the thread link to GD's post & he'd already done the image editing or what have you, and Jas had replied.

I just went back to the This thread is located at: iboats link in the email'd update & clicked GD's pix web address....

I suspect that GD's photobucket was lagging behind his updated pix being saved(funny mustache & crown) and your web browser was inserting the previous pix info(which it probably had cached) rather then the updated pix..

Same 'problem' occurs w/ CL when I've left an ad window open too long. When the web browser refreshes, it uses the cached CL ad info, rather then actually 'pinging' the CL ad again. Often the ad is pulled & my browser will still load the ad as though its active.

^^^ :watermelon:

I did pause to consider why GD might have pulled the pix. Seemed relatively harmless & in good fun, definitely not in bad taste or offensive, so I posted it :) Spent about 1.5sec analyzing that thought....

Thanks GD....

And yep, GA, its FOREVER!

My interrupter switch is bad. I have an option. Upgrade at a considerable cost, make a micro switch, or find one on Ebay which is what I did.
The summer is passing by. Hope to get her in the water ASAP. Been out only 2 times this season. I have the heater ready and some scrap steel to make a ice breaker in case something else rears up before I can go.

Got the switch. Followed all the directions , set the cables as directed. The switch is ok and functional. The problem is that no adjustment will make the switch cam move when it should. I measured the cable free play and movement all within specs. Adjusted the cable barrel 4 turns as directed. None activated the switch cam let alone the switch. Still playing with it. The switch activates at full throttle in forward gear. (not running).
