Re: 1977 Starcraft 21ft CC

I still haven't had much time to work on it....but I did find a fun little toy to play with until the restoration is done....Even though it isn't a Starcraft, it is a nice little War Eagle. The price was right, put my 60 h.p. mercury on it, and no other work is needed on it. It will get me out in the marshes and flats for some Reds and hopefully a few Spotted. I figure one of the three things is going to happen....1. After I finish the resto on the Starcraft, I'll sell this one for the money to get a suitable motor....2. I'll love this one so much that I'll enjoy the resto job and sell the Starcraft (biting tongue for even mentioning that....3. (Favored choice) Finish the resto, get a suitable motor, and KEEP them BOTH...one for deeper water and one for the flats....best of both worlds!!! Just a quick update for you all.

Nice rig, looks like fun to me:)

I secretly want a flat-bottom 14 footer for my 4th watercraft. Nothing runs as shallow, has the interior space, and stability.:D

I also like that vintage Sea Nymph back over yonder too. Is that also yours?

I'll forgive you for mentioning option 2...and Triton is right #3 is the best choice!

Yah, me too. But only because I see so many metal boats in the photo there. If there was a glasser on the lawn there would be trouble:eek::eek::D

I have a feeling option 3 is the winning option as well guys. The Sea Nymph you se in the background is my Father's 18'er. He came down for the winter and left it here when he left a few weeks ago. I am pulling it with my truck (he has a minivan, so it's easier to pull that distance) back to him in MI in a couple weeks where I hope to do some walleye fishing while I'm up there.

Jas, I do have something in the back yard which is not aluminum, I have a 15' canoe. I would have loved the canoe I grew up with, my father had an 18' aluminum wide bodied canoe with a keel.....very nice for a family of 5.

Re: 1977 Starcraft 21ft CC

Got the boat on the newer trailer. It is amazing how much higher it sits. I am very pleased how well it sits on this one over the old one. The old one had everything welded on it. I just got back from my annual trip back to Michigan. I got this trailer up in Harbor Beach. Had a little work to do to it before my trip back home. It had a very old actuator coupler on it in very bad shape, the brake lines were shot, and the wiring was cracked. I had a new set of hubs sitting around (wouldn't fit on another trailer I had) so I pulled the hubs and drums of it in hopes the spindles were the ones that would fit the hubs. They did and a good thing as well. The one side had a cracked hub on it. The entire drum was filled with grease (another reason why it is important to rebuild hubs routinely instead of just pumping grease into the bearing buddy). Even if the brake lines were good, wouldn't have done much....lol. Put the new coupler on it as well as a new wire job on it. My father found a pair of LED lights for me for a whopping $10. They work very well and love how much brighter LEDs are. Positioned them on the fenders about 18" up to keep them out of the salt water. I rebuilt the winch as well. Now the only thing left to do is a complete repaint job on it and replace the rollers when the boat is off for it's paint job. Will keep you posted and thank you for the support. This journey is a long and slow process but the feeling of accomplishment on every aspect is the complete reward!

Wow, it has been a long time since the last thread...the film industry has been popping down here and been non stop working...but won't complain, it's great to be working. Just wish I had some time to work on the boat.
News since my last post:
1. Bought a light little camper to go on the truck so I can still pull the boats around, needs a little TLC, but will be a nice addition.
2. That Vintage Sea Nymph you saw in the background H.A., I'm purchasing that from my Father this July I'll be up in Michigan picking it up. He doesn't have anybody to go fishing with up there anymore, and is pleased with his little 12'er and looking for a kayak....so I took it off his hands. He already purchased his new toy, a motorcycle with a side car.
3. I will post new pics as soon as I get them....(I have some older ones of the Sea Nymph SS 170)

Irish - Your going to have to do the Jason move - 10 - 15 minutes a day on the boat. Love to see another Mariner on the water.

Re: 1977 Starcraft 21ft CC

Thank you 64, I'm working on it... Have the new transom wood done and ready to be installed, but still need to get the pitting issue taken care of.
Question that I know how all of you will answer....Now that I will have the War Eagle 175 and the Sea Nymph 170 functioning, should I continue on with the Starcraft or see if I can find a worthy person to bring her back to her glory? It's one thing to have a hole to throw your money into...but 3 is a lot of drowning money trees.
The other option will be to play with the bass boat and the sea nymph on rougher days, and continue on with the Mariner. After I finish that, chances are I may redo the Sea Nymph to bring her up to her glory....the only thing with the War Eagle, is the PO redid the floor, but instead of keeping a straight floor in it, he ran it with the semi-V of the hull. It's fine, but a little uncomfortable...
Let me know your Thoughts...

Re: 1977 Starcraft 21ft CC

I think I may have a problem.....I keep seeing possibilities. I hate leaving my father without much of a boat to head out on the bay for some walleye. He has a 12' with a little motor for the little lakes, which is fine, because it's not too much for him to handle by himself. Even though he doesn't like going fishing by himself, I know he is wanting to get my 5 y/o nephew more involved in trolling, etc. I ran across this down here and following Jas' usual, "buy now, scrap later, break out even to start"...I think I may have found something for my father. It's looks like a nice deep bow for Saginaw Bay especially with a 6' beam. Depending on the condition of the motor, I can sell it and get him a nice tiller handle (Teamster should be smiling with that one). I am waiting for the guy to send me some pics of the interior. Then if looks like something workable....I will be pulling it up to Michigan in July for our annual fishing trip. May give a nice quick project for he and I to work on together as well....What do you guys think? With the transom needing replaced (not much of an issue, still have a lot of mg ply from redoing the Mariner's) and steering cable, should be able to talk him down too.

SCORE! Working in the film industry does have its perks....The new set pieces they are building uses a lot of foam....they are putting the scraps aside for me. The blue foam they are using on this one ranges from 1/2-2" foam. Now I just need a place to store it until ready to put it in....time for another rubbermaid building in the backyard....

]This film turned out pretty good for me....was able to score 3 Marine radios (ended up with an additional 680 (larger one) after I took the pic) and enough of the blue foam to redo the Mariner as well as when I redo the floor to the War Eagle... Ended up with it all for free.
