Well, I'm kinda kicking myself for putting my project in storage for the winter. It has been unseasonably warm since early December and is looking to stay that way for a while. I have been ordering various pieces and parts and have started rebuilding the engine cover and rear jump seats so I can work on the upholestery.

Got the engine cover and rear seat frames rebuilt. I am getting the upholstery sewn this week by a local guy that has an upholstery business on the side. I found the lower unit trim switch on ebay for $50 so I can install that this spring. I have all the parts except a transom ladder and a new bilge pump. I cant wait for winter to get over so I can bring the boat home and get to work on it.

I finally got the boat home and have found most of the part I needed over the winter. I got the outdrive torn apart last weekend and had to order some more parts. Washers, bearings, a pivot pin and some other odds and ends. There was some major corrosion on some of the parts. I finally was able to get to the trim switch inside the drive, what fun that was

Here are some pictures. The previous owner painted the hull and most of the outdrive. So will be getting rid of the white in the process of rebuilding. Good thing is that I am finding this stuff now and not when I'm out in the middle of Oahe or Lake Sharp fishing.

The greyish silver parts are the lower pivot pin and the steering gear that hold the gimble ring into place. They were both rusted so I bead blasted them. I have a new pivot pin on order.

After a long day the outdrive is complete. New u-joint, exhaust and shift cable bellows, some new paint, a rebuilt prop, repaired skeg and some new stickers made it look alot better. The salt corrosion looks like heck but such is life. Its done, now back to the interior. I got the stereo and side boards put in now have to work on the seats.

I got the beast running today. Had to put a tune up kit in it to get spark. The boat sat so long that the points were bad. Got the oil changed and rebuild the carb. The accelerator pump was virtually non existant and the float bowl was full of fuel varnish. It idles and doesnt fall on its face now when you give it some throttle.

You're looking good, jack. A word of caution - the Mob tends to hold you to splash predictions. Hope you make to the water in 2 weeks. It looks like it almost ready.

I need to install the new gas tank once it gets here in a few days. I have to get the boat registered too. I think once those two things are done I can hit the lake. Glad to know I will get harassed if I dont hit my two week prediction.

thanks for correction, GA. yer right, the Starmada mostly IS rebuilding em better than SC originally did. they originally used EXTERIOR ply rather than marine, no epoxy, and even I can do as good a job cutting the floor edges as whomever cut em freehand at the factory. and our flotation foam might actually float rather than sink the boat.........

I thought the ply was marine, just no protection at all. It's a wonder any floors or transoms lasted as long as they have. I pulled the bow floor section in mine and it was original and in good shape. Not so good going aft. The SC flotation foam makes a good beer cooler, that's about it.

I got the carpet in the bow from yourautotrim.com and the floor came from ********. I couldnt find the grey by the yard anywhere else. They all wanted to sell a big roll of it.

Re: 1977 Starcraft SUS 18' I/0 - Need interior help

I got her in the water this morning but found that my steering is 180 degrees out of whack! Right is left and left is right. The only thing I can think of is that i put the steering arm back on wrong when I took the gimble ring out to replace the trim switch. Anybody have any other ideas? The steering is a rack type under the dash so it cant be out of whack. Very frustrating!!!
