so I have decided that I am going to roll the inside of the boat. Have no experience spraying and really no means to. Any advice before I start this. I stripped everything out today going to get ready to start filling holes and patching a couple of places on the gel coat. do I need to thin paint to roll it on? and if so what do I need to use?

Nope no thinning required. Just wipe everything down with Acetone prior to applying the paint. What paint did you decide to go with?

I have been looking at the rustoleum brand at Lowe's. I think it's called top side. Any good our bad feed back on it? Still looking at the tractor paint but it's not a whole lot cheaper. I think that at Lowe's i's 12 dollars a quart

No need to use the "Top Side" Paint. The Rustoleum, VanSickle, Majic, Valspar etc...Are ALL Acrylic Enamel Alkyd based paints. I'd highly recommend you use the Hardener with the paint and for sure use the Gloss paint. It's much more durable. You can add some non skid additive to the last coat if you want to for the deck. Using the Ultra High Density foam rollers will yield an almost spray like finish if you use the Roll n' Roll method described in my link.

on the roll n roll method is the same amount of hardner added as the spray method

Yes, Same amount of hardener. Unless your boat is kept in the marina for extended periods of time in Salt Water, there's no need for Bottom Paint.

Ok i got you. How hard it's it to paint over old bottom paint someone had black bottom paint on it. It's worn now and you can see the white coming through in places. Second. .. i noticed today on the keel that you can see raw fiberglass. Say out is like bondo but flexes where bondo won't. Can i use something called poly coat on that. I had a friend recommend it for patching a couple places on my cap where the gel coat had busted. i will try and get a picture of the keel tomorrow.

Pics will help but...for patchin a worn keel that's down to bare glass, I'd highly recommend making your own repair mix. Mix up some poly resin and cabosil to thicken it and then add cut up pieces of Chopped Stand Mat. Make it the consistency of creamy Peanut Butter and putty knife it out smooth. Once it sets up you can sand this stuff out and it will wear like Armor!!! Bottom Paint is NOT easy to remove and It's HIGHLY Toxic sooo. if you decide to sand or grind it off you MUST wear a VERY GOOD Respirator to protect your self. Dust collection as best you can is a must as well.

Yep that's the right stuff!! Here's what you should do to fix that keel. Grind it all down and feather it out about 3" on each side to good fresh glass. Any major gouges should be filled with the filler I spoke of earlier. Then cut strips of CSM to overlay the keel and glass them in place. If you have any 1708 Biaxial Cloth, a layer of it wouldn't hurt too!!! Then 2 more layers of CSM and some final fairing and sanding and she'll be good as new.

No worries. Most ALL of the guys on this forum had never done any of this stuff, and some of the work they put out, is for sure PRO quality and in most cases better than PRO!!!! You'll do fine. Just keep posting pics and asking questions.

First good day of work today. Filled holes with a poly/resin and cabosil mixture. It worked great. A little hard to sand but I don't think I will have a problem with a hole again. My floor looked like swiss cheese once I prepped all of the holes. There were a lot of holes put in that floor in 29 years. Next step is to fixed cap where paint has busted off of it. Should I use a bondo style filler on this or should I reglass it and sand it back down.

In the pics above the busted places are bigger now where I started chipping the loose paint off. I didn't know if maybe I should fill it with some bondo glass or should I knock somemore of it off and lay some resin and mat. I'll try and get a better pic of it tomorrow.
