Howdy ncnjeremy,

Permission to come aboard...:)

Just picked up on your project and I am impressed with your work and the speed with which you have done everything...
According to my reckoning, I checked out your join date at the hull truth website, and you started this rebuild in July of this year??? WOW!
That is fast...unless I am missing something here???

Anyhow, what struck me is some of the amazing similarities between your Tidecraft and my Glasstream. They are so similar, that it makes me curious if one of the companies that made these, sold to the other...or maybe they were brothers from other mothers...:confused:LOL

Quick question...did you hit something when you went out fishin, and that busted the transom?

Oh, and I hope you heal up quick so you can git-r-dun!:D

Well keep up the great work, I'll be taggin along , anxiously awaiting "Splash Day"

Best Regards,
GT1M

Well hello there GT. Yes i actually started it in august. My birthday was july 26th and I got the boat a day or so after that. What happened was the boat came off the trailer on the ramp due to the winch breaking. But Im glad it did cause it Really needed restored. It actually didn't hit very hard. Should have only make a good scratch. But it was all rotted. And do you have a picture of your boat? I bet one of them did sell to the other. Someone told me that they sold out in the late 80's or early 90's or something. I think its in this thread. He said he went to the factory where they built them. And said there was a chop gun laying somewhere,,, even though they claimed to lay all by hand..... Im very glad to have the help of all the pros on here. I mean... Everyone has a few buddies that know EVERYTHING.... And will say ahhhh... it'll be alright, My cousins brothers uncles dads grandpa built one JUST like that and he just used all Chopped mat!!! I have heard it all. But yeah... My darn arm is killing me!!! Bout that time to pop me another 7.5 loratab. They gave me plenty of em!! mix well with the beer later! Im working on getting these videos up right now.

Re: 1986 Tidecraft Wildfire Restore/ All Rotted

Thanks for the visit ncnjeremy,

Dang, I s'pose the fishin gods were lookin out for ya, when the transom got cracked on land instead of out to sea...

Yeah, just got home and I'm waiting for the rain to stop so I can finish cutting out the remaining rotted wood, then gonna start some grinding...

As far as the splash drain, I kinda agree that routing it to the bilge would not be a bad idea, but you will definitely need to have a float switch installed on your bilge pump, so when the water gets too high it will automatically come on...on the other hand, a well sealed passage through the transom, like one of those aluminum/brass transom drains, or a piece of PVC pipe, properly sealed, would keep all of that excess water from getting into the innards of the boat everytime you slow down..., and just drain away without having the bilge pump come on. I guess either way would work, but I would let the pros that knows, from the forum chime in...

Regards,
GT1M

Yeah, for sure see what they say about it. Just what I was thinking when I saw that bumblebee. On that boat either the brass or stainless or plastic.... whatever was used either came out or was never put it. I was knocking on the transom and heard a soft spot around that hole. After putting my finger in it i could make a 9 degree angle with it and the wood was soaked. But it only went about 3 inches all around the hole. Approx a 6 inch area was soft. Something as small as that wouldn't really need a transom rebuild. But Just popped in the noggin, lol

Re: 1986 Tidecraft Wildfire Restore/ All Rotted

So i one handed some work last night. I sanded the deck down and glassed the sided to the hull all the way around. Man!!! It is so much easier to fiberglass to a flat surface! Been having to go around the stringers and knees and it is sometimes a pain to get the air bubbles out. I have tried to use everything. The fiberglass roller work ok. I read somewhere the working the air out with your hands works the best, and boy was that dead on! I just wear good gloves and massage them out. Works awesome! Just a tip for you glassers. It is almost time to put the cap back on. It had reevits holding it on with some screws. Im gonna use all reevits putting it back on. Im getting excited guys!!

looking good, getting excited for you putting cap back on...where did you find that swiss cheese ply? Keep them in a box so as not to lose any, can get a small screw (large enough to fit the center hole in your plug and tie a string to it....that way when you go to place your plug if it falls thru you can retrieve it.

Re: 1986 Tidecraft Wildfire Restore/ All Rotted

So...... I been lazy since turkey day. I got a few buddies coming over for help putting the cap back on. It took 4 of us to lift it off. Im gonna clean off all the silicone off and lay it back on.

Question.... Can I just use regular silicon on the cap or is there a special kind i need to use?
