Just got this. Checked compression, all good. Fired up on my stand, purring like a kitten. Go to turn the key off, and nothing. Pulled the lanyard - nothing.

This is my first Evinrude. What am I missing? Thanks

yellow black from the key must reach the EMM check for presence of ground to the switch then check for continuity from switch to engine... laynyard just duplicates the key's job (joining 2 Ms to kill) so look from key to EMM

suggest you visit theETEC owner's site dowload your manual if don'T have one

keep us posted ....feedback helps everyone !
testing for ground is the easy part

could be just a dirty contact in the #18 in diagram... or reseating the connector on the EMM work carefully on the EMM $$$$$

as an additionnal comment if new to ETECs you should consider acquiring EV DIAGNOSTIC software run on a W10 laptop ( a refurbished not expensive model with USB ports) .

EV diag is a must if you plan to pick your EMM ecu brain for any future problems .Ev diag allows tou to see all problem codes.

critical to ETECs is clean fuel, clean filters incuding a not very well known return filer in the VST ( sometimes not shown in the books)
Crumbling hoses since 2007 may... plug it up so if you do find lots of hose crumps.... feel the hoses for mushyness. if need be replace. Injectors and HPP also have base filters but...one thing at a time !!

Hose crumps can make it TO the injectors filters or simply BACK to the VST base filter.

VST hose barbs are very brittle and checking/replacing the inexpensive filter can be done bt don't break off the hose barb $$$$$$ pull it out using a large wood screw. Use proper Otieker clamps when closing up. This is a high pressure return hose from injectors.

don't forget key posts must have 0 ohm (short) M to M when OFF !! if grounds and wiring is ok
same goes for laynyard switch... to kill it must short out M wires

unlikely both functions would be bad but....murphy lurks.
