The drive is an easy thing to remove. I used to remove and install my Alpha by myself. It is easy. Plus you should be doing it to check alignment and grease the u-joint if they have zerks.
Ayuh,.... Take another picture, back alittle bit, so We can see the entire motor,....
The plumbin' is All f*%#ed up,.....
try blowing air or hook up a hose and try to pass water thru them.

time to replace both manifolds then. and maybe get the correct therm housing
I'd be willing to do that but am so afraid of twisting off a bolt into the head. If that happens I'd probably have to pull the head to work on getting the broken bolt out.
Ayuh,.... So ya rip the circulatin' water pump off, 'n tear it apart for no reason what so ever,...
But yer scared to do what needs to be done to fix the motor,..??..??,.....
The T-stat housin' it the Wrong t-stat housin',.... probably oughta start there,....
You either need the t-stat housin' that matches the exhaust manifolds, or go back to the log manifolds,....
Ya can't push water in, an out port,....
