Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy
Sorry, brother...I can't help with the %, but from here it looks like you are ready for the next grit...
My theory on grits is to use the most aggressive one possible until I
Feel I have reached a point of diminishing returns...
In other words, if the coarse grit I am using has cut enough material that the next grit still has some material left to cut, but won't break through the area I am working on, yet will continue to smooth down to an acceptable finish...then its on to the next grit, and so on...
Honestly, it is really hard to put into words what I mean...I suppose after sanding for so many years, it becomes almost instinctive, as to where to stop with a certain grit and move on to the next finer grit...
It really is a lot harder on a boat to "guess-timate" the point where you are about to break through, because, unlike a car body, boats tend to have a much "Wavier" [
wavier - Definition of wavier ] surface...
I would guess that it might be better, in some cases to hand sand without a backing board, to achieve a smooth, glass-like finish on a boat by just sanding the areas that need more attention, rather than trying to "Block Sand" everything flat and true, and running the risk of hitting a high spot and breaking through...
Geez, I hope some of that makes sense because I am confused...
