Troop, the portion that your polished looks really good.... I know this boat is important to you and I appreciate your dedication and attention to detail. You definitely hold yourself to a high standard.

I am by no means advocating cutting corners -- especially given the sentimental value of this boat and the time you have put into it thus far. However, just don't beat yourself trying to get things absolutely perfect on the gel (its hard enough in a factory setting, much less your garage). You are doing a great job and I can tell the end product is going to reflect your hard work.

You are right PMC.....but I just can't help it...


So tonight I get home...stick some 80 grit on the sander and scuff the transom up....drill a hole in my hvlp tip..use the mini drill press and some lapping compound to seat the jet....wipe down the transom....get the air tank filled...mix up a batch of gel and start spraying again...

Only problem was the tip getting a little clogged still and spitting out little nibs...


Ate some suppper...went out and took the heat gun to it...got it to harden up and started sanding with a small hand block to get the nibs down level...was only using 320 and worked real good...tok my last sheet of 320 and started sanding..water and soap....is coming out real good...I'm happy with the progress so far...more tomorrow...

Picked up one of those variable speed polishers on sale @ hf...man that things bring out the shine...but sadly I had sanded too deep again....

so tonight I sprayed 1 liter of gel from my pressure pot...just on the back of the boat...no way to check the thickness but hoping it was enough...I,put wax in the mix so it will cure...can I spray a second coat tomorrow without sanding or will I need to sand the top layer off first? I am thinking I will need to sand it first....

This is after all the sanding today...

and this is after all the buffing...shees I need to clean up the garage!

You can see my dirty shoes...

Still not perfect but it is going to have to be good enough...
