With the beautiful weather here in central Pa, I took the cover off my Ray to do some maintenance. After looking at the old girl, I thought it was time to give her a face lift and make her beautiful again.

My plan is to replace all the interior, replacing the brown carpet with gray, redoing all the vinyl and repainting the brown gel coat with red, and replacing the carpeted ski locker cover with a teak one.

Here is the ski locker now

This is the one I am going to install

My plan for today is to get the dash panels done and start the bow seats. I am surprised how water logged the wood backings are, I'm going to need more ply than I thought.

Gotta love the 80's brown. That half the reason we upgraded from our last boat.. brown scheme..

I'm sealing it. The old wet wood from the glove box was 4 lbs, new new wood after being sealed was just over 1 lbs.

Looking great. Your boat is similar to mine, but a year newer. Keep it up and keep the pics coming!

looking good I like that red strip you have in the pad you finished. I am on the same path with my cheetah. I have rearranged my seating and added a sundeck. I am down to the rear side padding and just about done with the sundeck.

I didn't have much time to work in the Ray this week yet, but here's what I have done.

Old bow seat

New seat cushion. I'm glad my mom is retired and likes to sew, lol

Old bow side, very wet foam. Had to replace most of the foam too.

And got the new carpet cut for the bow.

Thanks. I wanted to break up the white vinyl. I'm adding red to the seat cushions too.

I have lots of teak wood around from years of playing with boats. I'm using as much as I can in this project. I replaced the stainless hand hold with a teak one.

Do you see something I might have missed ?

Some of the deck will be pulled to put in the ski locker cover. I pulled the tank cover and removed the tank to get core samples of the stringers before I started. I also drilled the motor mounts and transom.

Re: 87 Sea Ray face lift

I haven't had much time to work on it but the bow is done. I'm not putting the floor carpet in until I'm done with the fiberglass work for the teak ski locker cover.

I ran out of staples and had to run to Lowes. Can anyone tell me the difference between these ? Other than the $4.00 price difference. The bar codes and item numbers match 100%. I guess marine grade is more, lol
