Re: boat insurance

Yes, usually you need pretty well maxed out limits on your primary policy in order to have it included under the umbrella . . .

since the Admiral works in commercial insurance, she does all the analysis and figuring on the insurance . . . my job is to make sure we don't have to use it . . .

Sure, carriers are afraid of the dreaded 'drop down' where they'd be forced to cover any gap in limits by the courts.

Re: boat insurance

i feel that boat insurance should be law like it is with cars, snowmobiles, fourwheelers etc. etc. the only time its not law to have insurance is if your using it on your property once use it off your property like public roads and trails insurance is law why isnt it for boats

It's mandatory (liability coverage) in Arkansas for any boat with an engine in excess of fifty horsepower. I agree that it should be mandatory everywhere. It's not expensive, and as I said before, it's a moral imperative.

Well all I can say is yes I have full coverage because of people who dont. While my boat is far from new I have invested a good amount in it and plan on using it many many years.

I would agree except for those who treat every accident like they won the lotto.

Re: boat insurance

Since my boat is probably the last boat I will ever own I want to take care of it. Insurance is part of that care. State Farm BTW
Besides, if she was ever stolen  I could at least replace her.

Re: boat insurance

Here in PA, as far as I know, there is absolutely no insurance requirement. Kinda strange. To be honest, for my first 5 years or so of boating I never even thought about it. Then I started boating on a busier stretch of water and the thought of my boat bumping into somebody's $50k boat was a little concerning. Then I started storing my boat at a storage lot that required insurance so I got it and have had it ever since. I do think it's a bit too expensive and I hate paying that bill every year but what are gonna do?

Agreed. It's definitely one of those checks you just have to hold your nose and write.

I live near and boat on 3 dammed sections of the Susquehanna river, also within 1.5 hours of the Chesapeake, and 2.5 hours of Lake Raystown.

We only need/are required to have insurance on cars here in MN. I have it on all of my snowmobiles, toys, boats and trailers however. I suspect those without morals and ethics won't follow the moral imperative mentioned above. El gobierno will be there to take care of them. Insurance is something the separates developing countries from the first world ones.

Correction, frivolous, baseless lawsuits are what separate developing countries from those that have seen the benefits of having too many lawyers... Insurance is a mere byproduct of that.

Re: boat insurance

btw i got a 500$ deductible on an 18 ft 2012 tahoe fully insured my payments are less then 50$ a month.
no reason someone cant afford basic liability, which would probably be about 20$ a month.
if you cant afford that you have no business boating .
