Hey guys, newbie here. I bought a boat from a friend of mine for $100 with the intentions of restoring it to usable condition and getting a few years out of it. I already knew the floor was rotten and figured the stringers would need to be replaced. Boy was I right, you can see the skeleton of the stringers but the wood has turned into wet cardboard
The transom feels pretty solid and its my guess that it has been replaced already. I'll probably drill a hole into it to see if the wood is soggy or dry. I figured it would be easier to work on the boat with the cap off so I have been working on separating it for the past day. This is the "shoebox" type. I drilled out all the rivets and the cap wants to come off except near the transom. I'm guessing its glassed into place. I'll try to get a picture of the inside of the transom tomorrow. I couldn't really see a place to cut the fiberglass near the transom so I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions. After looking at the bow with the cap lifted off I'm not convinced that the cam really needs to be removed in the first place. My lack of knowledge led me to believe the stringers went all the way to the front which they do not. Heres a few pictures of the boat. It needs EVERYTHING but I wanted something to kill some time with and don't expect the boat to be ready this year. I figured I'd start this thread and ask questions here along the way.
Thanks guys,
Aaron
