A friend sent this to me and I couldn't agree more!

Andy Rooney's Opinion dated March 15, 2003

I like big cars, big boats, big motorcycles, big houses and big campfires. I believe the money I make belongs to me and my family, not some governmental stooge with a bad comb-over who wants to give it away to crack addicts for squirting out babies.

Guns do not make you a killer. I think killing makes you a killer.* You can kill someone with a baseball bat or a car, but no one is trying to ban you from driving to the ball game.

I believe they are called the Boy Scouts for a reason..... That is why there are no girls allowed. Girls belong in the Girl Scouts!

I think that if you feel homosexuality is wrong it is not a phobia, it is an opinion.

I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America and see what happens. Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door.

I have the right "NOT" to be tolerant of others because they are different, weird, or tick me off. When 70% of the people who get arrested are black, in cities where 70% of the population is black, that is not racial profiling, it is the law of statistics.

I know what sex is, and there are not varying degrees of it. If I received sex from one of my subordinates in my office, it wouldn't be a private matter or my personal business. I would be "FIRED" immediately!

I believe that if you are selling me a milk shake, a pack of cigarettes, a newspaper or a hotel room, you must do it in English! As a matter of fact, if you want to be an American citizen you should have to speak English! My father and grandfather shouldn't have to die in vain so you can leave the countries you were born in to come over and disrespect ours.

I think the police should have every right to shoot your sorry ass if you threaten them after they tell you to stop. If you can't understand the word "freeze" or "stop" in English, see the above lines.

I feel much safer letting a machine with no political affiliation recount votes when needed. I know what the definition of lying is.

I don't think just because you were not born in this country, you are qualified for any special loan programs, government sponsored bank loans or tax breaks, etc., so you can open a hotel, coffee shop, trinket store, or any other business. We did not go to the aid of certain foreign countries and risk our lives in wars to defend their freedoms so that decades later they could come over here and tell us our constitution is a living document and open to their interpretations.

I don't hate the rich. I don't pity the poor. I know wrestling is fake, but so are movies and television, and that doesn't stop you from watching them. I believe a self-righteous liberal or conservative with a cause is more dangerous than a Hell's Angel with an attitude. I think Bill Gates has every right to keep every penny he made and continue to make more. If it ticks you off, go and invent the next operating system that's better and put your name on the building. Ask your buddy that invented the Internet to help you.

It doesn't take a whole village to raise a child right, but it does take a parent to stand up to the kid and smack their little asses' when necessary and say "NO." I think tattoos and piercing are fine if you want them, but please don't pretend they are a political statement. And Please stay home until that new lip ring heals, I don't want to look at your ugly infected mouth as you serve me French fries!

I am sick of "Political Correctness" and of all the suck ups that go along with it. I know a lot of black people, and not a single one of them was born in Africa, so how can they be "African-Americans"? Besides, Africa is a continent. I don't go around saying I am a European-American because my great, great, great grandfather was from Europe.

I am proud to be from America and nowhere else. And if you don't like my point of view, tough!

Agree completely with sentiments, but some of the items don't sound like something Andy Rooney would say.

Re: Couldn't have said it better

Doesn't sound like Andy Rooney to me.

I just have one sentiment. I want to see Kenny Boy Lay see the inside of a prison cell. For the millions and millions he and his cohorts at Enron stole from everyday, down to earth people, like several friends at Portland General Electric, who were investing their retirements in a upstanding profitable company, until it was purchase by Enron, and all their PGE stock was exhcanged for Enron stock, and promptly went to worthless.

Until that happens, I don't think I am going to worry too much about some welfare mom that might have got a couple of hundred bucks she didn't deserve. Or some black that may get a job that maybe he did not deserve.

Plywoody,

Don't worry, he will.

He has to be given the same rights to a fair trial just like any other perp.

That, as I remember, is a civil right. It's not some "thought up" one.

DJohns,

I am willing to bet that Kenny Boy gets a pass. They may get to Skilling, and of course a raft of lesser targets, but they will never get to Kenny Boy. He is too well politically connected.
Of course, I hope I am wrong, but I doubt it.

And it is a dang shame.

Re: Couldn't have said it better

Couldn't resist editing this to make it reasonable:

I like big cars, big cars, etc. and I pay all my taxes honestly and fairly.

Guns may not make you a killer, but there is no sporting reason to have and own a fully automatic AK-47 with a hundred shot clip. If it takes more than six shots to down a deer, take shooting lessons. And you should be responsible for how the guns you purchase are used. When not in use, guns should be locked away in a secure safe, out of the reach of children and burglars.

As far as homosexuality goes, whether you think it right or wrong is pretty much irrelevant. What consenting adults do behind closed doors is none of your business, and certainly none of the government's business.

We have had discrimination in this country since it was first founded, from the first "Irish need not apply" signs up till the present day, and they were wrong then, and are wrong now. We should all strive to eliminate this wherever it is found.

When 70% of the people that get arrested are black, in cities where 70% of the population is black, that is a signal and a symptom that something may be wrong. Spending some money to figure out what that may be and fixing it is a much more cost-effective approach than simply hiring more cops and building more prisons.

This is America, and employers are free to hire anyone they want, whether or not they speak english. We should all be thankful of all the people, many of whom speak alternate languages, for doing jobs that many english speaking people do not want to do. It keeps the price of that flat of strawberries at the supermarket at $4.00, instead of $8.00 it would otherwise be.

I feel much safer letting a machine recount votes as well, but we ought spend the money to have uniform state of the art voting machines in all precincts, and not have obsolete ones in use in predominately poor or minority districts. And while we are at it, we ought to have up-to-date accurate eligibility lists available, and not leave this up to the whim of the people sitting at the table of voting booths. Voting is too important to leave to chance.

Raising children is important, and if the primary method is smacking them, you are teaching them that violence is the preferred method for solving problems or altering behavior. Discipline your children, but if you find that you cannot achieve that without smacking them constantly, take some parenting classes.
Oh, and the anti-social behavior displayed by your child at age 6 is probably not going to be "cute" by the time they get to 14. A child learns most of what they know by the age of 3. If you want to have children that are socially acceptable and under control, spend some serious time with them when they are very young.

I am also proud to be an American where people can have their say, assuming they say it in a non threatening way, without fear of reprisals. And they can call themselves anything they want. It ain't none of my business.

That's better than the alternative- the right wing simplistic ignorant rage of the original. I would laugh at the original, except that it appears that lots take it seriously, as if it is profound or something.

Re: Couldn't have said it better

Plywoody, Help me understand! You state:

"When 70% of the people that get arrested are black, in cities where 70% of the population is black, that is a signal and a symptom that something may be wrong. Spending some money to figure out what that may be and fixing it is a much more cost-effective approach than simply hiring more cops and building more prisons."

So if you have a population of 2 million, and a population ratio of 70% black, and there are 10 arrests, and 7 out of the 10 are black, you would want to spend MY tax money on what?

I could kind of understand if data showed 70% of the pops were white, and 70% of the arrests were black. But that's not what was stated either in the original post, or your reinterpretation of the original. Plaease explain.

There is no REASON the anybody NEEDS more than one golf club. I don't golf, have no interest in it. but as long as we're prosteletizing (sp?), golf clubs are killers. there is no sporting reason to have more the one golf club. do you have any idea how many people die at the hands of a golf club? golf clubs need to be registered for the good of society. why does anybody need more then one club. if you can't hit the hole in a reasonable number of swings, take golf lessons.

sounds pretty silly. doesn't it?
