Re: DEER HUNTERS !!! Got buck fever yet? Maybe we should post pics ?
Many, many years(1970) ago when I first started to deer hunt with my best friend and his father in the state of Maine, I shot my first deer on the first day of the Maine deer season. Back in them thar days every Mainer had a cb radio in their vehicle. We always hunted with some local Mainers that were friends of my friends father.
As daylight began to break on a rainy dismal day and I could see my sights pointing into the woods, I began still hunting through the woods. After walking and stopping every few feet and gazing through the woods I leaned against a tree searching out the area for the least little movement of a deer, l looked at my watch and had been hunting for a couple of hours. After standing for about thirty minutes as I began to walk off to my right, there were a bunch of small pine trees about 6-8 foot tall bunched together that we call jack pines. Just to the left of the pines I see a deers butt jump into the air, about 75 yards away, I fired one short, did not see or hear the deer run through the woods. As I slowly walked to where I had shot at the deer, came into a clearing and I see not one but two deer dead. My first thought was,WOW!, two deer with a single shot. Walking closer to the deer I noticed that they were locked racks, one was a seven point buck which was the deer that I shot, the other was a 12 point buck. Once I got next to the deer the 12 pointer didn't look right, it was more of a grayish color, you could pull the fur out. We figured it had been dead for some time and the 7 pointer had been dragging it around from the way the ground was torn up. We separated the rack and dragged the 7 pointer to the truck. Every body in that neck of the woods knew that I shot a deer locked horns. I would pull into a store and someone would say, "your the guy that shot them deer locked horns" being from out of state and people seeing my license plate. Un be known to me the locals had it on the cb radio.
Has anyone else ever shot a deer locked horns with another?
