Haha, if you're serious, I will try to post a video. I'm afraid they may wind up staying in there. Maybe act as a wick if so?

Hey mwe, I just got done catching up with your thread, excellent work and craftsmanship there. That will be one solid boat for many years to come. Gives someone like myself new to all of the required technical skills more hope.

With leaving those ropes in I would be afraid it would hold water more than wick it away. They look like nylon which shouldn't mold or rot like cotton or any fibrous rope would, but still wouldn't want to trap any uneccessary water below after doing all this work.

Just my .02, not an expert by any means.

It is nylon, and I hope to be able to pull them out. If properly cared for, hopefully there will never be any water to drain out!

I greased hem up with wheel bearing grease. Will that suffice?

Thanks! I have run a jigsaw, skilsaw, etc a little but not much in the past and have no glassing experience prior to this. A little research and determination and I think nearly anyone could do it. Maybe not perfectly, but well!

Aha for some reason I thought you were going to leave them in.... chalk it up to being tired and sick when I read the post. Have you tested this maybe in a small batch outside of the boat. Like make a box and grease up the rope then do a sample small pour and see if it will pull out cleanly?

I'm interested, this sounds like a possible solution for me too.

I didn't test it. Thought about it, but I decided to put the effort toward the boat :p. Even if I have to run the rope out the bilge and hook it to my truck, they are coming out one way or another! I think the challenge is seeing whether the moisture will find its way to the bottom and get in the tunnel, or just sit in/on the foam. I wanted to glue in some vertical cardboard tubes along the stringers and in the corners at the bulkheads to give the moisture a way down, but I couldn't find any in time after I got the idea. All this is just preparing for the worst, though. As I've read many times, with a well sealed/tabbed deck and a little love, there will never be a need for any of this!

Oops has a good write up on pre pouring foam over plastic to create a mold with drainage channels in it you may wanna read. Its linked to in the pouring foam sticky I think.

Boy it's good to have something to stand on in here! No more balancing on stringers! :high5: I hoped to finish screwing in the deck yesterday, tab today, and foam tomorrow. But I wasn't able to get as much done as quickly as I'd hoped. The deck is all screwed down. I don't guess I could tab in the morning and do some foam after lunch could I? I'm guessing it would be best to give the filleting and tabbing a day or so to harden up before exerting the pressure of foaming on it?

I'm very curious to see if you can get the ropes out. I'm pulling for you, but my guess is that they'll be hard/impossible to remove. I hope I'm wrong!

We shall see!

Maybe I'll need you to come pull with me, instead of for me! :p

I hoped to be tabbing by now, but of course there was the grinding and the sanding and the cleaning and the acetoning that I always underestimate...

Looks like I will use about a gallon of resin to fillet the deck. I have used 2 quarts for the bow section.

FYI, you only need enuf to fill the gap and cove the joint a bit to help the glass go up the side. Less is more!!!!;) Make the cove as smooth as possible to cut down on any sanding needed before tabbing begins. Large plastic spoon dipped in Mineral Spirits really helps me keep the fillets smooth and a 6" plastic putty knife

Re: dixie hustler "deck job" (turned full rebuild)

That last pic was before 'spooning' :D So far I haven't had to sand and fillets. I spoon it, then go back and wipe away the excess that mushes out top and bottom with a large putty knife. So far so good! Its taking forever to harden today. I used 12.5 ml to one quart, but I think maybe moisture in the air affects it?

Its only about 73? today, which is better for me than the 85 its been!

The fuel hoses shifted the bow piece on me as I started screwing it in place, so the gap was too large on one side, and I had to trim the edges with a flush cutting blade on my oscillating multi tool on the other side to prevent hard spots. I guess the large gap ate up some resin.

Aaaand that's where I stopped since I had no more cabosil. I did do some other grinding and sanding too you don't see. All in all a decent day, as usual didn't get done as much as I wanted, but I took my time and I think I all turned out nice. I have no bubbles in the tabbing to contend with!
