Re: ecm 4s 3 cyl

It is all way over my head.

Is 4s supposed to mean four stroke?

What we have here is a failure to communicate.

Would be nice to know the brand and model of the motor in question.

Well, we are getting some where. What is the rest of the model identity? It should read something like F40TLR, F40MLH, etc.

This is going to be an European model so I doubt if we will recognize the numbers

Year of production might help if you cannot furnish the complete model number and serial #

Have you checked with your local Yamaha dealer?
seems that would be your best bet as getting any information from you is like pulling teeth

Then we need the first three characters of the PID.

Why are people so reluctant to say what model of motor that they have? Do they not know that Yamaha produces many different types of what some think are the same motor? Big difference between a carbureted F40 and an electronic fuel injected F40. They want help but then don't provide enough information for that help to be furnished. Strange, but I see it on all of the message boards.

I have a Mariner. I need to know what piston it uses?

Re: ecm 4s 3 cyl

Now we are getting some where.

Appears to be an F40BMHD (world wide) or F40MSH/MLH (USA) 2007 program year model.

It does not use an ECM. It uses a CDI. Part number 67C-85540-01-00. It can be obtained from any Yamaha dealer. Do a google search as their are several that will sell this part via the internet at a discount.

Hope you made darn sure that the CDI is at fault and it is not some other part that is causing the problem.

If this is a manual start motor, it takes a better man than I am to pull start it.

Boscoe99,

Seems he was saying the #2 cylinder was not getting spark.
Does this F40 motor have 3 pulser coils like my old C40 2 stroke?
Or is #2 generated by CDI like the 2 stroke 90

Wiring diagram in the SM shows one pulser coil.

Re: ecm 4s 3 cyl

probably best to check with local Yamaha dealer,
probably will not find what you are looking for at this USA web site because apparently parts are not the same if that is an ECM

What happened to the motor?
Go under water?
Looks kind of rough

Does "some assembly required" come to mind?
