Re: Gay marriages

WOW, I logged on this morning and saw 61 responses to this thread, I thought for sure all the post would be jumping all over me for feeling the way that i do. (it wouldn't be the first time on this board :D )

I was feeling down yesterday when i left work. I'm just glad to see that i'm not the only person that feels the way i do.

Just a few observations i have seen in this thread.... It seems like most of the hatred towards homosexuals come from two very different groups of people- either totaly ignorant people that are scared to death of them and will kick their @#* if them fags look at them the wrong way

And the people that feel this is totaly wrong because a book told them it is. I guess this is the reason i quit going to church as soon as i moved out of my parents house and i acutaly had a say. I'm not going to get in a bible debate it just seems like the very thing that says love thy neighbor and do not judge lest ye be judged brings so much seperation between us.... I guess it just makes me sad :(

oh one more thing... Congratulations Chads15 :) :)

chads15,
Congratulations on your upcoming union!
Best of luck!
Brian

(PS, why would you want to 'out' yourself on such a radical, obviously redneck board?? Not that there's anything bad about rednecks---heck, some of my best friends are _________ ((You can fill in the blank with whatever you choose))...)

Re: Gay marriages

Thanks Brian, Yes you are right about the Redneck board thing.. But I feel that most of the people on here are more about words than actions. The great book just tells them how to act. I will bet anything that I own that EVERYONE on this board has or knows or works with someone that it gay. and deep down really dont care. Or... here is the clincher.. Most people that are so ANTI GAY are usually gay themselfs. They just havent come out yet. I know... Im just rambeling nonsence.. but thats what most of you all are doing. Its kinda fun.. lets flood the bandwith with NONSENCE!

Chads,Deal with what? You're not attempting to intimidate are you?

Let's all be aware that modern day segregation works from every angle.Gays don't want to live around heteros and vice/versa.Same holds true on the ethnic topic.

Re: Gay marriages

chads- i just read the post about the whole gay bishop thing. All i can say is, your a much stronger person than i am. I don't think i could handle listening to such stupidity on a daily bassis. It does look like some of the same people that posted some of the most iggnorent things I have ever heard on that thread have toned it way way down on this one. Maybe just maybe they are starting to open up their minds a little bit. ;)

Either way it is quit obvious that i dont have much in common with most of the people on this board and my boat is all witerized and ready to go in the spring. so it looks like this will be my last post until i actualy need some help with my boat. Take care fellas :)

Re: Gay marriages

Ohh OB my friend, you are soo wrong. We have neighbors man/women that recently got engaged. and we are as much family to them. another neighbor another man/women we have dinner with them on a reg. basis. and I help him work on his car. Most of the couples we have around us prefer to be around gay people because we TAKE CARE OF THINGS.

Re: Gay marriages

Chads,That may very well be your situation ,but with all due respect it is not the majority consensus that gays and heteros and all different ethnicities co-exist in harmony. That perfect world hasen't been achieved yet,and quite frankly I sense reluctance of acceptance from both sides of every issue.I guess that's what makes humans unique.

Re: Gay marriages

First off, congrats jasonj, JB, and quite a few others on some great posts.

I fail completely to understand how some of the people on this board think that two gay people getting hitched could possibly have such a huge impact on them. It goes back to another post about things like taking the word "god" out of the pledge. People said "are we forcing you to say it? No." Well, do you think you're going to be forced to go to gay weddings now? I doubt it. Your defense should be that it makes you incomfortable, plain and simple. And that can not defend your position or personal attacks.

Through the many defenses that have been posed, I guess your only choice now is to fully resort to shoving some more "God says" replies down everyone throats. Seems like it's high time that some of you pry your noses out of that best selling book and try really hard to think for yourself for a change. You can see from a lot of these posts that many of our religious friends here can. Call me naive, but I really believe that you guys aren't that ignorant and full of yourselves.

And no, I am not gay. The thought of it grosses me out. And I'll bet that the thought of me with my girlfriend would gross out a gay person. It's about time all of us get past it and consider each other equals.

Chads...I say congratulations on your union, as I would anyone who got married.

Re: Gay marriages

Congrats Chad on your union. :) :) :)

While I may not agree with the lifestlye, No harm no foul. I think alot of what is being represented here by the homophobes is that they live their life in private and would like the gay community to do the same. I think you would agree with me in saying that alot of what you see on the tv portrays the gay community as a bunch of freaks. And that is what we have a problem with. I really thing JB hit it right on the head. And as far as the big book goes and I know I'm going to P-off KKC with this one the First 7 chapters of Genisis are a work of fiction. Made up to explain the world, life and creation. Therefore, The Adam and Steve comment is irrelevant. And Before every one starts to spout off at me that was a teaching that was put forth at a Catholic University during a Religion class. To which I would have to concur with.

In closing live and let live. I DO NOT bring my private life out to ram down peoples throats and I amd totally against most forms of PDA's. So therefore, don't be suprised when we take an opposite position when the Gay/Lesbian community trys to make there lifestyle public. However, whats it is a crime that 2 loving and caring people do not get the same benefits as those that get married and are the opposite sex. Fine don't call it marriage call it a union (I would prefer this) but commited couples derserve the same treatment no matter what the sexual orientation.

Re: Gay marriages

By the way, I would also like to say to JB...from what I've seen on this board, you kind of seem like an older guy that's religious and pretty set in his ways. You're a model for some of these guys for seeing past a lot of that, making up your own mind and speaking what you really believe. As you said in your last post, you've basically realized some past ignorance and I commend you on that. :)

Hatred of others because they are different or we don't understand them as been going on since the beginning of time. I guess we really haven't evolved much have we? :(

Truth is, we are ALL human beings and should respect people for whats in their hearts and souls, I find it sad that we don't.

Re: Gay marriages

Chads,Now let's just skim over the words that were exchanged and elaborate a bit on this statement that you make about people like me keeping "hate" alive.I think you are blinded by your own interpretation of the text in question and since you perhaps percieved me as not being gay ,then I must be your enemy.Sort of makes one wonder as to the validity of your earlier comments about your harmonious hetero neighbors.Just because you profess to be gay ,doesn't automatically make you richeous. If it's been reported that the world isn't co-existing in harmony, don't shoot the messenger and fabricate some abstract agenda.Brush up on your reading comprehension skills and perhaps we can talk more in the future. That's why these topics don't ever seem to get anywhere.
