Ok... Hi every one I didn't see a fuel/ oil forum so I am putting it here.. [MODS FEEL FREE TO RELOCATE ] Been doing a little research and looked up some MSDS's sheets on line [MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS] Companies have to have em. so emergency responders know what they are dealing with in case of an emergency Like fire or medical. tells the contents of diff products.

These are close but not 100%. I list the main ingredients, some ingredients are in a real low %. not listed

AMSIOL SYNTHETIC FOGGING OIL

MINERAL SPIRITS 79%
NAPTHENIC OIL 11%

AND LAST , BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST

Those are the only brands I could come up with in an hour. STABIL, made by Gold Eagle or something like that didn't want to give it up, I couldnt find.

Also there are several diff types of Naptha for instance.. but I just listed em as Naptha look up the MSDS for yourself if you wanna get real serious

It took some digging and this the best I could come up with. no guarantees on accuracy or spelling, but did my best... Some food for thought

So the Naptha is probably used primarily to leave a paraffin residue after it first spreads over the surface and then evaporates. I guess they could use kerosene to put on a heavy coat of paraffin.
You can use ATF and just mist some into the cylinders through the plug hole.

I frequented a Marina in Stillwater Mn and thats ALL they used, [tranny fluid] note; that was 10-15 yrs ago

Why Fog? I never use it in my lawn mower over the winter and never in the snow blower over the summer and have no problems at all. In fact I do not use a fuel stabilizer and don't have any problems. So what make a boat motor different? I just run good gas in all of them.

I know a mechanic who uses it when putting an engine block together. Combined with double oiling it's fun to watch a 2-stroke smoke up the world the first time it's started after being rebuilt

Fuel related engine problems happen over the course of a certain amount of time. Ever see what color ethanol gas is after sitting for several months?

IMHO Yes you might not have any noticeable problems year to year. But you have bare metal inside your engines.

I think sittn in the off season you could develop the slightest bit of rust inside your engine, Sure it starts and runs and blows that tiny bit of rust out of the exhaust. Rust used to be metal, the metal that used to be your engine. So year after year u lose tiny bits of your engine to rust. The oil film will help maintain compression for awhile. [during the boating season when you are using your engine] So you start to lose compression after 10 years where if you had slatherd the inside of your engine with a rust preventing film. you might go 20, 30 who knows how many years. [ I am just pulling those time lines out of my ... um ... I mean thin air to make my point. ] I have a junk snowmobile engine in my shed thats disassembled. Its never seen rain, just humidity. The cylinder walls started out nice and shiney. They are now rusted over brown. In like 4 years.

On a 2 stroke, connecting rod bearings and cylinder walls/pistons take the hit.Yes the 2 stroke oil will give you some protection.

On a 4 stroke you have cylinder walls, pistions/rings and valves exposed. The engines last gulp of air before puttn' er away will have some moisture in it. In the form of humidity.

Ive been foggin' every year for 20 yrs. Compression this summer was within a couple lbs of 180 in 5 out of 6 cylinders and 170 in the last..
IMO fogging is cheap insurance .

Wow! Great Post! I have been looking for a fogging oil to do mine for this winter. Does anyone have a suggestion on which one would be the best since I'm a green horn?

Also, concerning the E-Gas.......... In NC I know that there is a % of the E that goes into all the gas. I have a motorcycle that I had to tear down my carbs after the transition to E gas due to stopped up ports and injectors. I hate the stuff.

I don't always fog my lawn mower because it is a 4 stroke with plain bearings that retain an oil coating on them. That means the surface of the bearing and the surface of the shaft remaain covered with oil. Ever taken a 4-stroke apart that had been sitting for years?? I have and they still have oil protecting the shaft and bearing.

I DO fog my 2-strokes because they use ball or roller bearings and DO NOT retain the oil on the entire surface of every ball or roller. Corrosion can form on the now unprotected surfaces. Once that happens it is just a matter of time before that bearing fails taking the whole engine with it. I have also torn down 2-strokes and have seen this "feature".

BTW, I usually do fog everything in their respective off-seasons, but I am particularly anal about doing the 2-strokes.

You can do what you like, but I personally think anyone who doesn't fog their 2-stroke seasonal engines is asking for a failure.
