Re: hydrofoil or trim tabs or both??
You are actually correct, they do make that 2-4 MPH claim on the last line of the last page. I would love to take them up on that, because on some boats it may be more than that, but on others it could be no gain or even a loss. I would say that with the normal improvements seen by using tabs nobody is going to complain if they don't actually see the 2-4 MPH increase. I was wondering if they make the claim for that Sea Ray, or if they mean it for all boats.
Why do certain props work on some boats and not on others, why are there 2, 3, 4 and 5 bladed props with every imaginable shape and style of blade if one type of prop (tool) should work in every situation. Tabs are like any other add on?.results will vary.
Again, the example of using a foil in the add is totally wrong, they should never be used in that way, it is absolutely the least likely way for one to have any positive results. Do you expect them to show how a foil may help if used correctly? When you base your belief system on misunderstandings the facts matter little.
Remember I agree that tabs are great products and are far more useful than a foil, foils have very limited applications and there are normally better, but far more costly ways to get the same or better results. Although I do find the high performance boat sites tend to like the Alison drag plates, or similar ones, they are the same idea as a plastic foil, only made from aluminum.
I?m actually going to put tabs on one of my boats because a foil would be of no value for what I need to do, one of my other boats has a foil because tabs would have been of no value for what I needed to do on it. Different tools for different needs and situations.
The problem is people don't use any critical thinking when reading advertising and understanding how to use these two products, they don't seem to understand what each product can and can't do. It appears that if some people can't fully understand a tool (and these are tools) it must be bad, sort of like the hammer and crescent wrench example I gave before.
