Re: I am diggen this boat but my first mate doesnt seem to. What do you folks think
shortleg, let me give you something specific about that exact model boat. It is DATED. And if your wife don't like it, keep looking. That being said, you are NOT going to find anything quite like it, actually. That 268 Sundancer is unique boat in that it has both a full v-berth, aft berth, AND a dinette, while only being 8.5' wide. (warning it will weigh about or over 10,000lbs on the trailer, though)To find a boat set up like that one, that is modern, you're going to have to go to a 29' boat that is at least 9.5' wide, more likely 10'. My parents first cruiser was a 1989 Sundancer 268, in 2000. They LOVED it! But eventually my mom wanted something that was more modern. So after a 27' Chap Sig 27, in which they lost the separate dinette, and hated because of it, they had to go all the way to a Chap Sig 30! 10'3" wide, and about 13,000lbs on the trailer. So figuring in the 50k or so he spent on the used Chap Sig 30, and the $50,000 3500 Chevy diesel pickup he needed to tow it (he used a 2500 Suburban with a 7.4 to tow the Sea Ray), it could cost you $100,000 to get a non dated boat!
Only other specific to warn you about is that that boat most likely has an Alpha One drive behind that 454. The only did that for 3 years, and that's one reason for the invention of the Bravo series drive. That Alpha will wear out and break eventually pushing that big ol' heavy boat around. Oh and your fuel economy will be about 1.5 mpg.
