BC,

Vegas is one of the cheapest places in the world to fly into. Also, April is sort of their "off season". You should be able to rent an econobox for very little.

Re: iboats West get together!!!

Yeah, you guys are right....the prices are cheaper than I thought. I can get a return flight for $300, and that was the first place I checked.
Is April 1 the confirmed date?
Providing I do come, all I have to do is book the time off and rent a car(ahem....I mean a 4x4 truck).
Of course I would arrive 4 days in advance and leave a week later.
This might just work.
I will check and see if anyone else with more senoirity has booked that time off.

Any weekend is fine with me, since I have no one to answer to except myself. :D

Well, looks like my plans might fall apart. The wife and kids will be in Chicago the end of March for her cousins wedding. The wedding is the 25th and she can't get anymore time off (school teacher) until summer. Not sure she will be up to traveling again that weekend.

I'll have to try some pleading, bribing, beggin and maybe even get started on her "Honey do" list.

Actually, not a bad idea...she may welcome the break after having the boys for a week in Chicago.

I'd like to camp but can't pull the boat and the trailer. Don't think I still have a tent but I'll check.

depending on the date, I've herd that there are a lot of spring break type parties going on in that area. You all might want to prepare for some naked sights.

I think it might be fun to head down. It would be a haul, but worth it.

Spud

Re: iboats West get together!!!

Just for clarity:

The date is April 1st Seems appropriate for this gang, but it really is, no really ;)

There is a lodging link above. Boat camping is available at a variety of state run campsites. Some accessible only by boat. I am looking into the reservation procedure as I am currently planning on camping at a place called Friendly Island which is noted on the map above. Considering there are some that are planning to attend without a boat we will post a land/water meeting place for mid-morning on the 1st. That way those that want to head out on the water can and those that are scared away by this motley crew can simply turn around and walk away . . .

Yes, no matter what time of year, there is opportunity or risk of innappropriately exposed flesh at Havasu . . . Last year I was there at this same time and we got no flesh, but there were Breakers in attendance. Wait, wait, now that I think about it I witnessed the most graphic display of public sex ever that weekend, however it was dark and the boys were tucked in. Yes, anything can happen at Havasu, no, I was not personally involved. I will tell the whole story on the 1st . . . ;)

Re: iboats West get together!!!

So if I'm coming up Friday, and plan to be at the campground a day earlier... I will travel North from Quartzite, where is the best place to put in and leave my vehicle?

Are the friendly island tent sites on a "first-come" basis or can they be rented?

What are the ammenities on friendly island? (ie: bathrooms, campfire rings/grills, etc.)?

Thanks QC, looks like we're making serious plans for the first! right? heheheh

Re: iboats West get together!!!

I am checking on the reservation deal for Friendly Island etc. Nothing to report yet. If you're leaving the vehicle (like me) then Lake Havasu Marina is probably best. It is out on the Island about 1/2 mile after London Bridge. On the left.

Friendly Island has fixed awnings, table, outhouse and some cooking/fire thing. I have actually never camped there, but BIL has and I will get details. Again all, FI is accessible only by boat. There is car accessible camping on the big Island i.e. the one you get to over London Bridge. BTW getting on the bridge is actually kinda weird as you go the opposite way off the highway and then turn around to get onto it . . .

I have neer fished Havasu although I have fished above and below. There are Stripers, Catfish, Trout, Bluegill and of course Carp. The trout fishing up in the current can be quite good, and there are some monster Catfish all up and down the river/lake etc. I have caught Striper on Lake Mead, but don't recall seeing them boil on Havasu. I am sure there is somebody here that has more experience.

Re: iboats West get together!!!

I found this here:

Havasu site

Boat-in Camping: There are 125 lakeshore campsites available along the Arizona side of Lake Havasu, from Lake Havasu City to Parker Dam. Most sites have a picnic table, shade, BBQ grill, pit toilet and trash can and are available on a first–come-first-serve basis. These are fees sites.

Edit: Friendly Island is one of those. BTW, I don't really know if that is the correct name, so refer to the map above for location. We will get much more precise as time goes by.

KRS, Have poles will Travel I cant be on the water and not fish the stiper fishing is good there you might get just small ones but usally you can get something and the cats always seem to be around. Anchovies and it is leagle to chum in Havasu I do work out of town a lot but if I am here I am going even if the wife cant go she only stays mad at me about two weeks when she cant go but we all have to sacrafice sometimes. Havasu marina is the best place to leave a trailer it is a little run to the place but they have the nice launch ramp there. Hope to be there :D :D
