Re: Increasing MC-1 trim range

Hi Guys:

My apologies Chris, but my understanding was the external return line should be installed on the top of the cylinder to avoid collision with floating objects but as you know, the original rams had the connection all at the same end so the aftermarket connecter has to be installed upside down. I may be wrong though!

The larger diameter rams were used up to 1981. They had internal return lines (both hoses connected at the front of the ram).
Thinner rams with external return lines were used 1981/2. They have the UP hose connected to the front of the ram, on the top side. The DOWN hose connected on the underside of the ram, at the back. The introduction of the lower pressure, high volume Oildyne pumps in 1983 saw the ram diameter increase again, but the return lines stayed external, and on the underside of the ram.
With the advent of the Gen II drives, the rams now have a flare on the underside for water deflection, but still have an external return line, but now fitted on the inboard side of the ram.

Anything hitting the underside of the ram must have gotten past the anti-cav plate first.... So a damaged hydraulic hose will be the least of your worries... :D :D

Chris.....
