Re: Is it just me?

I think JB nailed it (as usual).

I was one of those newbies that join in the spring 2 years ago. However I quickly learned that this was the most valuable source for boating related information on the net and to respect the forum format. Two years later I have rebuilt several outboards, become very knowledgeable on propping outboards and am in the process of a complete fiberglass boat restore! All of which would not have been possible without this forum.

Some get it, some don't. The ones that do will stick around.

Nice DJ! Good lean/list reference. I guess I can get a good bottle of wine, uh I mean port, to drink while I look at threads.

Port, port is wine, wine is red, red is port. Something else that I learned right heere on Iboats. Driver side and passenger side used to confuse me on the boat. Of course, I tend to confuse easily, I think, sometimes, dont I?

We live in an information age, I think people just expect information and have no patience anymore.

Hmmm, interesting thread and worth commenting on. I agree that the younger generations are more intent on instant gratification than us Baby Boomers. However, I have three boys in their early 20s, and my former wife and I did our best to teach them manners and respect. I believe many of the issues raised in this thread are the result of laziness amongst parents just as much as modern technology and the natural attitude of the older generations who have, since time immemorial, believed that the next generation will ruin the World.

Wasn't it Socrates who stated, "The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers."

Hmmmmmmmm. Are you sure that was Socrates? Sounds a lot like something my tenth grade biology teach Mrs. Trauth said about my class. She was looking right at me when she said it, but I'm sure she meant it for everyone. Right? Maybe she got it from him.

Wow, at least you remember who your biology teacher was and what she had to say... that's impressive... I can't even remember the name of my first wife, let alone what she had to say! :)

Ya poke poke.

Most expensive repair the fuel pump replacement. After all it is an 89 some thing has to wear out. The galvanizing was tricky.;)

Why do I feel like i am going down in a ball of flames.

Puddle I'm with you man. One man's trash as they say. Certain styles of OMC have bad designs or it was the first year or two of the design and are prone to expensive repairs. I have an '80 50 horse that has been a blessing. Runs like a champ and doesn't give me any problems even with the neglect it gets from me and the mighty Ohio. But seriously, stainless steel chain? If you are that good to your anchor your wife must be spoiled rotten. Mine just smells that way. Just kidding honey, ow, ow really honey .....

See, if you explained yourself the first time we would not have to "FORCE" this out of you, or was this one of those
OMC, "Oh My Cod" moments??? :)

Re: Is it just me?

<clears throat> It seems there are two different arguments.

There are jerks everywhere of all age groups and with the anonymity of the internet, how do you know the person on the other side of the monitor is young or old?

Being one of those people of the younger generation (29), I find the problem lays with the older generation/farts. So many of them did such a poor job of raising their kids, look at what we have left over. :) My folks did a good job, they have kids that are a lawyer, a doctor, and an engineer. Some of my friends weren't so lucky, they are lazy, broken family, and live in a parent's basement. Without a good foundation, how in hell do you expect to raise a family? Look at how bad the divorce has gotten compared to the "greatest generation". All we got from you guys was STDs and higher gas prices! :p

The point is no matter what generation that you come from has a greater impact on the next generation that comes your way. We can do the blame game and I know there was a lot more complaining from the GI's about the generation between mine and theirs.

I started on this forum about a year ago and I have more than enough posts to account for a day of membership on this forum. I have had many questions and had some great responses from people who know a lot more than I. They have also saved me thousands of dollars and headaches. I even help people as much as I can from computer questions to first time buyers. The problem is those few who represent the exception to the rule stand out and evoke more emotion that makes it hard for people to forget.

Right now I can say my biggest fault on this forum is i don't say "thank you" enough, so for all those who helped me, thank you.

If you are really worried about the next generation, then please spay or neuter yourself. :p

All in good fun,

-Hostage

Hostage, taken in good fun, but also a lot of truth in that "satirical fun." Parents are a big part of the problem, but society's desire to parent can undercut the parent's attempts (remember, "It takes a village ..."). In the end it boils down to choice. I have seen great parents do most things right and kids turn out "wrong." I have seen loser parents do nothing, and the kids pushed themselves to turn out "right." Just sayin' ...

Okay, back to the regularly scheduled program ...

There are always exceptions to the rule, but rules are rules for a reason. Statistically speaking, look at how many inmates come from single parent families.
