Re: jetski thief shot dead.
In Wisconsin they close school on opening day of deer season. The 14 year olds are out hunting with their own shot guns along side their fathers. They don't close the schools here in rural IN, but it's a very similar situation. Many young men are out hunting with their own shot guns, right along side their fathers. They are mature enough to handle a fire arm because they have been trained from a very young age in the proper use of them. I'd hazard a guess that there are more hunting accidents among adults who consume alcohol, than with teenagers. It is a very normal part of growing up in some parts of the country. At the age of 18, we put automatic weapons in their hands an trust them to defend the country. I agree that a 14 year old who lives in an anti-gun house, would not be mature enough to handle a weapon. That type of parent is a rare breed around here. Most of the crime around here, is Meth related....they steal ingredients from the farmers....unless they get caught!
....statistically, not even close.....respectfully.
14 year old boys (and girls) are, now more than ever, no where near mature or responsible enough to be making decisions like the one he chose to make.
This is why the parents have a certain amount of (legal) accountability in this....at least until the age of adult hood which is...what 17 years old these days?
Now that said, it's a shame the guy on the receiving end wasn't more of a real thief....like a young Bernie Madoff
Interesting situation all in all and it I guess we'll see how it plays out for them.
