And by the way, because I'm not aware of your boating knowledge, you did make sure you have oil in the reservoir? Because if your alarm is malfunctioning and no oil......
(No disrespect intended) Also, you can just check for spark you have to check for GOOD spark. That means a tester that measures how far the spark jumps. Again, if you didn't do anything reckless, and those tests check out....old dirty or water contaminated fuel or the vro needs help.
i always make sure i have enough oil
i test drive it with the quarter tank of the last owner when i bought ...and since then i just put brand new 91 octane gas in it

From what I understand octane is not an issue but stay away from ethanol.

When it starts to die, have you tried squeezing the fuel line ball? Have you checked fuel filters? Is the fuel hose bad?? I would start with the easier stuff first if it were me.

Also clean the pickup in the tank. The outside of your fuel line can look perfect, it is the inside that fails and cones apart. Also the valve in your squeeze ball can become clogged with small bits of fuel line when they come apart as can the plug going into your motor. Your issue sounds fuel related so go thru the fuel delivery system thoroughly!!! If it is old then I would just replace it all to prevent future issues. If I remember correctly the life expectancy of the fuel line is something like 5-6 years...

sorry about that
No worries, just thought you might want to know. Model number J=Johnson, 70=hp, T=trim and tilt, L=Long shaft, EN=year.
Here is the conversion.

Does the hose / fitting for the tell tale come off the side of the block ?----Or was it moved to the top as per a service bulletin that came out in 1994 ?
