president speaking tonight. looks like an ultimatum- saddam steps down in 72 hours or we attack. as the resident navy guy, i support his decision and how he has gone about it. although war sucks and should always be the last choice, i look forward to finally letting our troops do their job and ending this. we should all pray for their safe return.

War is terrible, but there are times when it is better than the alternatives.

This is one of those times.

I get the feeling we don't know the whole story... I think the pres.'s PR sucks but I agree with getting that scumbag out of power. Let's get it over with. I'll pray for the troops safe return.

Would not be a bit surprised if after about 30 minutes to an hour after he talks, it begins.

It sure ain't good when they call the inspectors out of a country.

That has to tell them something.

It is a time for all of us to hang together and pray for a quick end to this without much bloodshed on either side.

I think it is time to buy stock in companies that manufacture card tables.
It was widely reported that one of the triggers for Osama was the fact that the US had a military presence in Saudi Arabia, however small that was.
Can you imagine what the idea of installing by force an American government in the middle of this area, complete with massive military operations? With published reports suggesting this is simply the first step.
With a billion Muslims in the area, I suspect there will be card tables springing up everywhere to enlist new recruits for Osama and friends.
The war itself may well be short, but the effects of it will be long and painful, I expect.

I certainly hope so, because they'll be manned by U.S. soldiers who will know exactly how to handle these recruits.

The U.S. has had over 17 mths to prepare for
terrorism on its own shores. Not all Muslims
are terrorists. You will be safe in your closet.

Saddam Hussein is the person who is fully responsible for what is about to happen.

please let's not trivialize this sombre news with
a debate about the merits/downfall's of war.
my son is 15 and I shudder to think of him being
deployed right now awaiting god knows what!
we ALL go into this with a heavy heart....
my .02,
M.Y.

Agreed M.Y.

Anyone who believes in God should be mentioning the soldiers that are preparing for Iraq today, as well as President Bush and other world leaders.

Prayer For The Soldiers
It's the soldier not the reporter who gives you the freedom of the press.

It's the soldier not the poet who gives you the freedom of speech.

It's the soldier not the campus organizer who allows you to demonstrate.

It's the soldier who salutes the flag, serves the flag, whose coffin is draped with the flag, that allows the protestor to burn the flag.

"Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need."

Of all the gifts you could give a US soldier, prayer is the very best one....

Re: looks like war

This has nothing to do with whether or not we can keep terrorism from our borders. If we can. And it is correct that not all Muslims are terrorists or potential terrorists. Perhaps it is only a small minority. But it will be a lot more after this Iraq war than it was before.
And we are a dependent global trader that is dependent upon global trade for our way of life. Whether you like that or not. The anti-American sentiment this is going to engender world wide is guaranteed to cause us real problems long term, and all over the globe.
And the notion that we can just "kick their asses" is naive and foolhardy, aside from the fact it won't work.
Oh, and I do support our troops. It is not them that are causing this problem. It is the politicians.
