It is easy to see that you are afraid of reprisal
from the muslim world. However it is just as
apparent that the muslim world asides from the
terrorists have distanced themselves from Iraq
and Saddam. It is easy to see he has few Friends
and in very short order you will see that this is
true. Dont be afraid of the unknown that is
foolish. Instead try to better understand what
makes up the unknown, and the difference between
rhetoric and reality.

Re: looks like war

I doubt anyone but the loosely wrapped, dont have heavy hearts. This is world-changing.But show no fear. Laugh and spit in the eye of the infidels.
We have to render the oposition toothless, and one way we can do this, is to laugh at the sandman. He is impotant, and his family sleeps with swine. He torments his own countrymen, and does not even pray at noon!
He has squanderedd his country's wealth, and left his people hungry and cold, and slaves to his whim, while he moves from palice to palice to save his own evil skin.
He eats pork, and is a pig-dog. he should be exhiled into the desert with his evil carvan of infidel followers.

You know, stuff like that!

Folks, the Iraqi people have been slaves to this tyrant for over 20years! They presently have no idea of how badly this goon has treated them, and very few know what life is like in a free society.
When they find out, they will be like Japan was after WWII. But then my father told me ,and I've watched enough of the History Channel to know, that they were fierce in thier defence of thier home.
Iraq will be liberated without France.
And our commander In chief minced no words. We will do so, without the UN, or anyone else if we must. But we must.
I hate predictions, but will.
I personally predict a short campaign, and a long occupation. The majority of combat forces will be home for July 4th.
Those still there will be a coalition led by UN (here we go again)... But they will have a democracy.

Re: looks like war

Correct me if I'm wrong but is it not technically "illegal" for our military to forcibally remove one form of govetnment and install one of "our" choice? I tried to find the answer but could not.
I'm not, with those comments, disagreeing with our governments actions, nor am I agreeing. To be frank I'm not, by my own negligence, up to date on the issue. I am only trying to remember government classes taken nearly 10 years ago.

Re: looks like war

It depends on the circumstances. Technically, this would probably be a legal operation, since Saddam has not fully complied with the terms of the cease fire in the original Gulf War.

Being legal does not necessarily make it wise, however.

I kind of lost track what this war is about, since it has changed so many times, but for a while at least this was all about fear about what Saddam might do to the US. It seems now to be a humanitarian effort to free the Iraqi people. I think. At least today it is.

Anyway, I get to fly cross country to Detroit on Wednesday, and get to experence first hand the Orange alert at the airports! What fun!

Well the U.N. weapons inspectors have just left Bagdad, as per MSNBC, just now.

I heard that my old unit the 173rd Inf. Brigade "Patriots" are in Kuwait. I wish I was right there with them now.

Re: looks like war

September 11th did happen. It was not a dream, and many of us are in full-support mode with our commander in chief. Whether you agree with his orders or not, he is the cammander, and just as if it were a stack of cruise missles aimed at an asprin factory, all he needs to do, is give the word.
I guess part of how i feel is "revenge" for 9/11, in all honesty... But retaliatory or not, I support his removal of terrorists, thier weaponry and infastructure, and support network and groups.
We all must begin to understand what the Isreali people live like, with all the terrorist prevention measures they must live thru. Sure, I would love to get outta my vehicle, walk-thru the terminal, and straight on to my flight....But then, there is reality. Don't let the terrorists win vicariously!
Support your commander in chief. And even if you simply CANNOT get behind your nation in these trying times, don't forget those who job is "Not to reason why, but to do or die", (The armed forces over there in the sand pile).
Click one or all of the following links..Do it today.

Hugs to Kuwait

homefront

OPERATION; "Military Pride"

Re: looks like war

One thing we can always count on from the right. We will learn what to fear, and we will learn who to blame. According to them, of course.
I do give the president credit for masterfully shifting the blame of 9/11 from Osama and the terrorists who did it, to Saddam, whom there is no evidence he had anything whatsoever to do with it.
But if we are to exact revenge, I suppose who we exact that revenge on, and whether they are involved or not, is beside the point, apparently.
I do find it somewhat ironic that the administration and the pentagon are predicting a short war, because after all, Saddam is just a fraction of the strength he was before the Gulf War, due to sanctions and whatever, and the reason we need to take him out is that he poses this immediate overwhelming threat to the US. Because he is so much weaker than he was? I get too confused over this.

And the administration has done a masterful job at selling this as part of the war on terror, even though it was planned by members of the administration in 1995, and perhaps earlier, as part one of a strategic domination plan. Long before we even knew we were in a war on terror.

Look, I have no doubt Saddam is a bad guy. There are lots of bad guys in the world. Maybe the Iraqi people, and all the different groups involved, will be dancing in the streets, singing Kumbaya, and all get together to form this wonderful democracy, and all will be wonderful. I have no idea what will happen, but I think this is a high risk move, where little risk was necessary.

And as I said before, I do support the troops--they had nothing to do with this--and I do hope I am wrong.

As Charles Barkley said, I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

As far as moving to France, I think not. America needs dissenting voices like mine more than ever. Blind obedience to power is not the America the founders envisioned, even if the right would prefer it.

But time will tell.

plywoody,

since there is no link between so-damn-insane and alkida(sp & broken arm), why should we expect an increase in terror attacks WHEN we hit bagdad?

barely,
A-men

to whom it may concern,
i think that flathead, kennykencan, perhaps many others and myself will contribute to your "one way" air fair

Someone just don't get it.
America and it's allies are out to stop terrorism wherever it lays.

Osama is a terrorist and so is Saddam.

Until you walk in my shoes, don't even think you know what terrorism is about.

Notice I said no names. :D

Re: looks like war

Well the clock is ticking. My guess is that one of the following is the way things will go...

Iraq will lauch biochemicals on our soldiers before the 48 hour time period is up.

Saddam will surrender to the U.S. or go into exile. (NOT)

We will systemactiaclly launch attacks as planned. or

the best of all possible scenarios........

One of Saddam's own is compassionate enough to take him out and avert war entirely.

Plywoody,

Just a travelers tip.

Plan to get to the Detroit airport VERY early on your return trip. Security will be tight.

Detroit (Dearborn) has the highest concentration of Iraqi transplants (descendants) of anywhere else in the country.

Have a safe trip. I mean that.

I assume you're flying Northwest, for that I pity you.

Your Freedoms, and an airport near you. think about that for a while.
Then ask yourself "who's fault is this??". Then , once you think you got the answer, get back on here and answer it.

I cannot wait.

Re: looks like war

Thanks for the tips on DTW. I am in and out of that airport quite a bit, and I will take my chances.
As far as any of the other arguments go, they make absolutely no sense to me whatsoever, except for the person that suggested that be it Saddam or Osama, as long as they are Arabs, who cares?
That has the ring of a certain amount of honesty to it. As ridiculous as it sounds, at least it is honest, which is refreshing.
As far as potential terror attacks, why would you think they would originate out of Iraq? They could, of course, but the threat is from the entire Arab world, and specifically from fundamentalist Muslins who view any presence by American military in any Arab country a threat. The notion of having a military US government imposed upon them by force is not going to sit well, I suspect.
We have already had an American and a Canadian today killed by a Yemeni, and that is just a prelude.
And we are alienating a good share of the free world with this action, which is going to hurt our ability to track down and arrest terrorists.

The Pakistani government, for example, is hanging on by a thread by their support of the US and its war on terror already, and this action is not going to help their cause. They have been instrumental in us catching the terrorists we have to date, and does anyone think they will continue to be as cooperative after this?

Oh, well. I guess we don't need anyone's help against the real terrorists.
