Re: My Muffler Bearing Finally Went Out

I'm amazed that you guys are still using muffler bearings. Here in Ontario we switched to torque framock discombobalators years ago. They run much cooler, are cheaper, and easier to replace, and are held in by a single stainless steel Boxton pin. The great advantage is that you can use an automotive model in marine applications. Two years ago, they made them mandatory in vehicles due to stricter anti-smog regulations......And yes, there is an adapter kit for older applications.

they may be cheaper up there, but here on the west coast the goatmen and jackalopes eat them like candy. hell caught one chewing theough my zorgenstine flutter amp box to gety to the torque framock discombobalator. close to $1000 bucks later for repairs. too bad the .177-50 barett is in having the scope tube rotated, or we would have been eating good for a week,

The last time I checked you also need a can of compression to make the muffler bearing last longer. Oh ya and also a very large left handed monkey wrench to tighten it to the right torque spects aswell so it will perform better. Happy days are here after you get it done as you will have the quietest muffler around town.

You guy's are all stuck in the 80's..Muffler bearings..Jeesh. We made the conversion to Phleufer valves on ALL of our equipment last year, and haven't had any issues since.

Here's a picture of an old muffler bearing.

Amazing!!!... As rusty, old, and worn out as that muffler is... The internals are still like new. Don S., you must use high caliper contortional silicone gaskets to get performance like that... Amazing:D
