As you can see, by picture of my gauge (see profile pic), my left muffler bearing has definately failed. I couldn't find them here in the iBoat store. Should I just buy one off of eBay? How long will my boat last without it being repaired?

Muffler bearing tolerances aren't that critical. If you can find one on ebay go for it. Where you need to be careful is during instalation you don't damage the rear main seal when you remove the cylinder head.

If your left muffler bearing is bad then your right muffler bearing will also fail shortly. You might as well replace them both while you've got it apart, it's a pretty simple job. When I replaced mine I used these pre-greased graphite ones, they're only $50 apiece:

I always replace EVERYTHING with a 3/4 Pinckney valve.

Boats use a Kuhneutson valve instead of a Pinckney valve. I don't know of any Pinckney valves that are Coast Gaurd approved. This Kuhneutson valve will also work with fuel injected engines:

Muffler Bearings usually only go bad when not cleaned with aircraft grade prop-wash. Be sure to soak the new one in a bucket of steam to soften the seal and moistureize gizmo.

You can get away with twice a season, but you CANNOT run winter air in the summer and vice versa.

I had the relay between my drink indicator and the anchor floatation device fail one time.

Re: My Muffler Bearing Finally Went Out

I suggest you stay off of Ebay if you're looking for a muffler bearing. You might save ten bucks, but I know you have to machine them flat just to get them to make good contact with the muffler or exhaust tubes (if you aren't running mufflers).

If you use the wrong muffler bearing, you might cause some back pressure, and then some exhaust will leak past at the joints, and it'll look like you blew a seal.

If you are out at sea all day, you don't want anyone to think you blew a seal.

From the seller:

Do you have an annoying rattling in your mufflers? Are they sagging a little? Don't quite sound right? That could be the symptoms of a worn muffler bearing. Allow me to introduce the KaleCoAuto muffler bearing! It's unique iron-graphite composite with pre-grease-packed assembly provides over 200,000 miles of smooth muffler operation! It is most likely they will outlast your mufflers. Also works well on heavy duty exhaust systems. One per muffler.

On boats, it works in conjunction with the Power Band ( http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=30 ), and helps in planing, and overall performance.

Re: My Muffler Bearing Finally Went Out

Improper winterization is the primary cause of failed muffler bearings. They should be removed at the end of the boating season, bathed in Tidy Bowl cleaner, sprayed with Deep Woods Off, then kept soaking in a vat of lard until reinstalling the next season. The process must be meticulously reversed, lard to Off to Tidy Bowl. If you don't use this process the reacivator on the exhaust flappers will jam up.

While you're at it, check your compass too. Failure to keep it properly lubed with Relative Bearing Grease, will cause premature failure and arrival in strange ports, all over the world.
