Re: Poor Hole Shot
are you turning those WOT rpm's when the boat is loaded heavy (full fuel and livewells)? Seems to me like you might be on the verge of being over-propped... then with more weight, or maybe in need of a tune-up, it ends up being a dog outa the hole.

So to me, it sounds like you just don't have enough hp at low rpm's to swing that 24p, at least the way your engine is running right now. So no, I don't think going 4 blade would help... maybe would be worse (unless you drop in pitch) because 4 blades would give you even more bite.

I wonder if the more this happens, the more likely you are to foul the plugs, and then it keeps getting worse (?).

so, my thoughts are 1) tuneup and 2) think about dropping some pitch (unless WOT rpm's would be excessive).

For comparision, I spin a 19" pitch 3 blade aluminum prop on my 150 V6 merc... tops out in low 50's mph (just under 6000 rpm), but the 17' ski boat leaps on plane. Ya, I could go faster, but I wouldn't like to drive a dog. Even though yours is faster, I'd be out of sight before you get on plane!

HTH,

Brent
