To me it really does not matter, I have not used IE for years now and won't because of their lax stance on security, as I stated in another thread, I uninstalled IE on all of our computers many years ago.

What is really sad, is the Adobe Flash Player vulnerabilities have been known about for many years in all the various browser platforms.

Re: Previous discussions about browsers...

I beg to differ Bruce, the machine I am typing this on which had the resource problems with FF is a Windows 8.1 Quad core 17.3 inch laptop running 8 gigs of memory and a 1 terabyte hard drive! The CPU and memory issues have been well documented for a few years now.
So how much memory usage is an issue? I use Firefox while I run circuit simulations all the time and I never have issues. The machine I am on right now has 8GB RAM and its an old 6 year old quad core machine. Right now Firefox is using 500MB which I agree is pretty high but I surely don't notice it affecting performance at all.

I agree with you on IE although there are certain websites that just don't work with Firefox.

Using Opera now........... I haven't found any sites that don't work with FF yet....... I did find a few that wouldn't work with Konqueror until I configured it to "report" it was I.E. or Mozilla running on Winders XP etc.

I'll also add that my criterion for a browser MUST include functionality with ADBLOCK PLUS.

If I cannot squash the ads, I won't use it!

After I wrote that, I decided to see why my Chase site didn't work with FF anymore. Googled the problem and it is well known and I had to change a FireFox setting to make it work. Annoying that I had to do that but at least there was a fix. Had to change network.http.sendRefererHeader from a 1 to a 2.

Actually the biggest problems with the versions of FF I have used for years has been the CPU resources, which after running for about an hour would continually spike in the 90% range and really slow things down a lot, I even disabled all plug ins as well as add on's and it still would spike very high, I am not seeing that with the browser I am using now, but as I said, high memory and CPU problems has been documented on FF for quite a long time now.

To add, I have never found a site what would not work with FF.

One of the biggest problems I have found over the years, is as memory came down, sloppy programing went up, programmers now a days, really have very few limitations when you have machines running 8-32 GB of memory, and a lot of the current generation of programmers don't debug their code for the memory leaks that happen, it is like turning on a faucet and forgetting to turn it off, back in the day when we were limited to 640K of usable memory, we really had to watch how we used and released memory.

Does it do that when you run FireFox in safe mode? Maybe just a bad extension or plugin. I have never had that issue on many machines.

Out of curiosity, go to Chase.com and see what it looks like to you. I am running version 28. It's the website that didn't load properly for me.

I just checked my other machine and it worked fine. My one at home also had issues with it. At least I know how to fix it now.

Also FWIW - the "IE" bug was not an IE bug. It is an Adobe bug and exists in their versions for Windows, Mac and Linux ;)

You can get patches for whatever you are running.

There has been one after another and they just keep patching them. Latest update was yesterday.

It is one of the inherent problems with active content, anytime you give the browser the ability to actually execute code, there is going to be someway for a crook to exploit it.

I have been using FF for years. I have never had a memory problem or had a session where I lost CPU resources. I just downloaded version 29. My machine is an Acer Aspire, Intel i7, 16GB Ram, 1TB HD, 17" LCD, ATI Radion with 4MB Mem.

Resource issues with FF seem to be well known. That's why I switched back to IE which almost made me puke. Funny thing is I am getting used to it and didn't miss FF much until I tried Pale Moon. I am kind of paralleling Pale Moon and IE now. If you like FF, you will love Pale Moon is my initial assessment.

I guess I'll have to go have a look at Pale Moon. I'm always up for an upgrade.
