There have been changes in my neck of the woods, just checking in on your pending inspection & purchase?

Be over near you picking up the new boat soon!

Re: question of cost for stringer, floor and transom replacement

JB,

I'm still working out details with the seller..since the trailer isn't too roadworthy at the moment and it's about 4.5 hrs away. It's becoming more of a problem then what I was hoping for, here's a list of just the stuff that's needed to get in on the road. No safety chain, tires are shot 12" 4 bolt, bearings unknown condition, no lights, hitch coupling is missing the clamp hardware and the coupling is welded on the tongue. What makes it even waste is the seller doesn't know anything about a boat or trailer, so I have to explain everything in long detail about getting information from him (such as the hitch coupling and the coupling size, etc..) at the rate it's going it'll be 2 months before I have all the information to get everything I would need collected before going up to get it. If it wasn't in PA and maybe in VA I'd just drive out to make the list myself. Not sure where this deal is heading...the more information I gather the more it looks like the seller should be giving the boat away for free.

Did you find something good over this way? Maybe a Tin Starcraft Chieftain that's looking for a new home this week???

Just remember BOAT is an acronym for Break Out Another Thousand. once you accept the fact that a boat is a hole in the water to pour money into, you can start enjoying it. As WOG stated, your looking between 1 and 2 BOAT units to fix rot.

Yes.....dumping money into the boat I understand....but dumping 300.00 into a trailer to just get a boat to my house isn't probably a good choice for my funds right now. I really like the design of the boat, but I know it's got to have a full gut done to it, but all the hardware is there (original). I was hoping that the trailer was in decent shape, that all I had to do was bolt two new tires/rims on and go but that's not the case and the asking price is making me have second thoughts on it. He's never answered my question about a title for the boat either, which would cause more hoops for me to get it titled down here in VA.

I suspect it's more about the difficulty getting info, so that at the end of a 4.5hr drive, if the BOAT is as expected, it can actually be driving home, not dragged:rolleyes:. I understand how frustrating it is to be interested & have the current owner unable to help sell THEIR own boat.

Sorry to hear it's so frustrating getting info. If your hunt is anything like mine was, as soon as you hook one to your trailer hitch, interesting boats in your price range will start showing up in all over, some close, some not so close by. At least until I started looking again.....

Headed your way next week to pickup:

There has been a slight change to my signature, I started a 2nd rehab thread:D

Re: question of cost for stringer, floor and transom replacement

OK...the deal is closed, I'm a proud owner of a ?? Crestliner boat. If I was going to guess I'd say it's around a 68 thru 71 model, 15-16 ft give or take a few inches, 85 HP rude electric shift, no tilt/trim. Looks all original. I will be leaving next Sunday to go pick it up and bring it home.

I'm wondering, since I can't edit the title of this topic, should I start one that I can call my base topic for my Crestliner? (Mods, can you change/edit the title?) If so, just put "Older fiberglass Crestliner" until I find out the actual year after I do research on it.

Thanks,

Re: question of cost for stringer, floor and transom replacement

Congrats, funny I need to head your way to get my SC.
My suggestion would be to keep this thread open until you pick up the Crestliner, then PM a mod & ask them to close it. That way when someone does a search for pricing they find this thread, but it's closed so no new posts. It will have you listed as the original poster, and if when you change your sig line to include the Crestliner, they can either go to the new thread, or PM you w/ Q's about pricing.

Win-Win and no furnther post here after you start the Crestliner build.

Q's:

Where's the Crestliner.

Glass?

Closed bow?

Congrats!

Wisconsin? You're nuts!

Keep this thread until you have some pics of the new rig. Let us all congratulate you on your find. Then we can close it and start a new Resto thread.

Why is that? most of the boat here are garage kept and wiped down after every use. Plus this is the land of Beer

Re: question of cost for stringer, floor and transom replacement

strictly distance

Oh believe me......I'm not looking forward to the 17.5 hr drive at all. But I really like the design of the boat and my wife likes it (that's always a double plus). I'm hoping that the floor and transom are still good (could I be dreaming?) and just do minor repairs to get it prepped to water ski with. Then make plans to demo it in a year or two. I'd like to have it match my tow vehicle (Silver 4dr Wrangler) but before I spend the $$ on color change and new interior I want to make sure I find every bug that's going on with it, including the engine and trailer, so I figure a year or so will give them time enough to show their ugly faces so I can write them down on my rebuild list.
I know one of the first things I'm going to do is build a new trailer for it, I want at least 14" tires and the boat sitting level when on a trailer. As you can see by the photo, it's definitely NOT sitting level on it's current trailer. This will be my third trailer I've built and this time I'm going to add swing up rollers to the main bunk designed trailer. This will allow me to roll the boat off on super low tides without getting my trailer close to the drop off at the ramp. Should be fairly straight forward to make a series of rollers that swing up and barely lift the boat off the bunks by using a secondary winch mounted on the bow stop. When I get it home I'll take photo and start a new topic for my boat project.

Scott, I hope this boat is one of them garage kept boats.

"and my wife likes it" ...I think I am starting to tear up. You should be a happy man.

No doubt about it.. when it comes to my fishing and my pontoon, I couldn't ask for a better wife! It's the other 90% of the time I have questions about her! :D
