The pump looking thing looks to be your auto float switch.. if you bilge fills up with enough water that tilts back and flips your bilge pump on..

Also everything looks good so far. trust me its tedious taking all the wood out.. but youll get there.

Did some more research and I think they are called anode bolts. They seem to be only avalible in a kit that runs about 50$.

Looks like your bringing this one back from grim death. Hate to say it but your risers look like they are shot. I would plan plan on replacing both the manifolds and risers as it looks like they are about the same vintage, not something you want to gamble with. I would also recommend replacing all seals and gaskets on the motor while it is out. Cheap insurance against an oil leak. You do not want oil leaks in a boat, especially after you get done replacing the entire sub floor and floor. The last thing you want is oily water traveling through all the drain holes and into your ski locker etc and generally just making a big mess.

Thanks Bond but I think I might go with it because I can pick it up at the auto zone down the street and don't have to worry about ordering to much or not enough.
Just hope my funds holds up.

Yup. I bought it knowing nothing about a boat and I also had to talk the wife into it so I have to fix it and make it safe for the fam.
When I'm done, their won't be anything on this boat I don't know or how it works (thanks to you guys)and I hope in the near future we can actually enjoy the darn thing.
A little history on the boat. She was sank in 99 and the po spent over 10k just in the motor in the first 4 years he owned it. He didn't do any of the work on it thou ,he took it to the boat shop just to change oil. The entire motor was rebuilt in 00. With the $ he put in this boat he probably could have purchased a darn nice one.
The first time I took her out we almost had a fire do to poor eletric work. Went to the father-in-laws the next day and he said {I heard you bought a red hot smokin boat} so hence the name.
Alright I'll quit rambling.
I like the style and it has enough room for us so I'll take good care of it. :)

Re: Replaceing deck on 88 Mack 1

If the PO told you he spent 10K on the motor then he was either lying or he got bent over hard. Risers and manis look original as does most of the other parts of the motor. You can buy a whole new motor with everything on it for around 4 grand. Not to sound negative but did you get receipts for 10K from the PO. Just looking at the pics, it would appear that the boat was severely neglected, and if it was submerged at some point I would also be looking hard at all electrics including gauges and lights. The important thing, is if you like it, then fix it up and enjoy, but I would guess it is going to take around 2K in parts to get it right with you doing all the labor, and that assumes you only have to replace the Manis and risers to make the engine right.

Yes I do have a book of receipts the guy gave me and I wish I had a pic of the boat when I brought her home, severely neglected+2.
I've redone all the eletric work and everthing works and all wires are sealed. So i'm good there.I'll see about the risers and the manis and yes I do want it right.
Thanks

Re: Replaceing deck on 88 Mack 1

I did a little grinding for the deck and I started thinking of adding a live well. It looks simple enough to do and I have the space for it so why not even already have a thru hull fitting that went to the sink for the drain. I think I will.

You mentioned the motor mount bolts were loose, did you check the eng mount stringer for rot?

NO, I think they just needed to be tightend up. I should drill it and check to make sure. Thanks
