This winter I am going to try and retrofit a Camper Top for Rinker. I bought it on Craigslist for 50 bucks. I also want to put more stereo equipment in the boat. Need to rebuild the carb and tune motor.

What is everyone doing?

Re: So What's Everyone's Winter Projects???

Replace the rear casting deck on my Crestliner Sportfish. The port rear section plywood (covered w/ carpet) was dust in one area thanks to being left outdoor with a factory cover that pooled water and dripped over that spot. The carpet was pretty much holding it together.

Everything else looks good best I can tell. New (remanufactured) powerhead on my outboard last year is running very strong. Oh yeah, I do want to add a filter/water separator before springtime.

I have too many projects. I will try to get to at least one of them this winter.

Planning on replacing piston rings in my old Johnson. Maybe cleaning up the old aluminum boat. Who knows what I may end up doing after all.

I did this on my 1992, went on pretty easy. So nice just being able to unscrew the thing and replace like an oil filter!

1966 Lone Star Cruise Liner III:

- move batteries forward - done
- new helm - in progress
- new doghouse & transom deck
- strip, seal, & repaint hull

That will keep me going until the ice is gone from the lake

Will be restoring the old Checkmate. Done pulled the motor/Outdrive and interior, Carpet. Now need to get under the Deck to see how the balsa looks. Would like to Paint the whole boat but i an no painter and i have to this outside, so we will be limited to whatever the weather throws at us this winter. Were hopeing for a mellow one, unlike last year we had record snow fall. Did i mention I HATE WINTER. I will start a new resto thread with pics and all when the fun starts flying. Happy Boating!

Winter??? What's that? Just now getting cool enough to boat.;)

I have the opposite issue. My boat sits in a 100* plus garage for six months. I do treat the fuel with Sea Foam. I do not have to worry about freezing but I change the L/U fluid before storing. Drain/Fill plug seals too!

I do not "Fog" the engines because the humidity is so low here (20% or less). If you are in other clime's, I recommended it.

Re: So What's Everyone's Winter Projects???

After the boat gets out of the shop for the lower shift cable replacement, I have a used camper top/bimini (looks new) to try and get fitted. Possibly fabricate a teak swim platform if I can't find one for cheap. Already have brand new engine/bellows/etc. The only item of major consequence is the outdrive, which could be the cause of the shifting issues, which means an SE 106 gets thrown on there.

So, a few projects, but nothing outstanding. If everything goes smoothly/cheap, then I may go ahead and have the doghouse/rear jump seats turned into a full rear bench/sunpad.

Re: So What's Everyone's Winter Projects???

This all depends on if i decide to put the boat in the garage for the winter or leave it covered outside...if its in the garage i'll complete the following -

Install a tell tale on my johnson ;)
Re-wire the entire boat because it looks like hell
New gauges(speed, tach, fuel level, and possibly water temp and voltage)
Sand and buff the gel-coat

If all that gets done and i'm still motivated and have time, i'll replace the floor and carpet. Thats not high on the list though. They will last a couple more years no problem but they're definitely old.

Odds are though, that its going to get put out back and none of this will get done over the winter. I really don't like clearing snow off my car and scraping frost off windows every day before work.

Hi Ya'll, new here. Bought a small Cooper Prowler this spring and put it in the water right away...so now that it is parked in the backyard for the winter it is time to go over it well, figure out how to change a few things, redo all the interior cushions, and cockpit cushions. Take off all the hardware and windows and reseal. And wax everything I can reach! It is actually in extremely good shape but does have some very minor leaks. It was a really dry summer though so we got lucky.

1) Remove the 25 footer from the trailer, repair hull blisters, fill, fair, paint and gelcoat.

2) New bunks and rollers on the trailer.

3) Possibly re-build, or replace my current pre-alpha outdrive. If I replace, going with an SE 106.

That's enough for now...

Just started building a 32 x 64 ft shop, so I will have a place to work when it is 30 below this winter. If the weather cooperates I hope it will be done by the end of November.

To answer the original question:

-Rebuild the 1966 3 HP Evin. She's a bit "loose". Runs fine but I hear a death rattle.

Re: So What's Everyone's Winter Projects???

My winter project is sitting next to the fireplace to stay warm. Of course this is after I take care of the honey-do's. The boat was turnkey so I dont need to do much of anything after I winterize.

Now the boat-puller might be in the heated garage for some work. Mostly body work and maybe a mild cam.

Park the boat and fire up the snowmobiles.
