Really? Modern day technology vs daddy's glastron full of wood. I'll take a vec hull anyday than a rig full of wood.

Hey Marty, look again smarty pants. This quality VEC hull has BLISTERS all over it! No thanks, you can have it. That Glastron is not for me, and not for this guy either.

G22, no way to know if those manifolds are bad just from looking at the outside of them. But it is a 16 season old boat, and those are probably the original manifolds, so time is NOT on their side.

I am much more familiar with vehicles than I am boats. I never thought about their being a problem with the cast iron exhaust manifolds on an older boat. The only time you ever replace them on a vehicle is to put headers on. Could you explain how they are different or what would go wrong and needing replacement. Is replacement needed just as a function of overall time or actual engine hours? This boat supposedly only has 166 hours on the engine. Just trying to learn as I go along. Thanks.

Re: Torn between two used boats

Exhaust manifolds on an inboard engine get rusty internally, because they have water jackets all around the outside, to cool the exhaust. Freshwater/saltwater it doesn't matter, eventually they rust out internally. When they rust out, you get a cylinder or two that fills up with water after you turn the engine off. This leads to hydrolocking. Although most people mistake it for "the starter went out" and leave the cylinders full of water for a week or two while they get around to replacing the starter (which usually does have a busted bendix). So after a week of water sitting in a cylinder, you have a rusted up, junk engine. So bad exhaust manifolds can ruin an engine.
