Thats crazy!! Even if i did have a trailer i would not bring it down just to show you and give me a estimate. Your hours away and that would just be a wast of gas and time. No offense tho. If it was something really serious and you could have helped me out the i would have brought it to you without a doubt. Thanks for the offer!

sorry==that three wheel thing under the boat in the sig picture gave me the impression it was on a trailer.

I would be tempted to wrap/drape the boat in black plastic. That would at least take the most advantage of sun's heat. Just a thought....

At some point if you cant get the plug out from the transom just drill yourself a new one but you HAVE to have a drain back there!

Man not only it the community helpful but also humorous!! LOL thats funny! Why dont i just bring the boat to Miami or Las Vegas , Its always warm there!

I usually go to vegas a couple of times a year, usually in the spring or fall. 90% of the time, my luck dictates that North Dakota will be warmer than Vegas! (It has been true the last 3 years running.)

Ok, this is the 2nd post to recommend to the OP that he drill a hole in his boat. While this advice is clear to most, you are making this recommendation to a guy who has literally asked the best way to melt ice. Going to be a long thread after a new hole is drilled in the boat.

I would just let it sit as is once the drain hole is open. My take on the wrapping is that it could cause a very high humidity environment inside the boat for an extended period of time.

Put a couple of fans in there if you can. It would be a major help with thawing and also help with drying as the water recedes.

Agree!!!

There is absolutely no need to drill another hole in the hull. :grumpy:
Worst case would be to remove the mounting screws from the flange and put a big wrench on the plug.
Even if the flange is epoxied in, it will break free and twist out!

Covering the boat in black plastic is going to turn the cockpit into a mold growing Sauna.
It will become plenty warm above the deck; Heat Rises; and nice and cool down below in the ice box; Cold Sinks.
Opening it up and letting the Sun and warm air blow through it would be a better choice. Get air in there!

#1. Open up that plug. Put a wrench on it an pull Like a BIG Girl! :D

You calling me dumb? I was just asking approximately how long would it take because some people said they had the same situation before.

No, just going with the "comedy" aspect earlier.

I wouldn't drill a hole in the boat, if I had to, I'd pay someone with experience to get the plug out. Wait until the ice melted, uncovered as much as possible so it will dry as stated in previous post. Assess the damage, fix it or have it fixed.

My concern about applying that much brute force to a bolt in the transom that the OP claims is stuck solid is that if the transom is not 100% he may end up needing glass work on top of everything else. Thats why I suggested just drilling another drain hole and be done with it. (hopefully)

The TRANSOM is NOT IN ANY WAY part of this situation... His plug is in the BOTTOM of the boat amidships.

Drilling another hole there is NOT a big deal at all.... He will have another plug with him to size the hole and can easily drill it if he for some reason can't get the existing plug out....

OBVIOUSLY it would be better to remove the seized plug BUT IF he had simply drilled in a new plug last fall his boat wouldn't be full of ice now....

While not the ideal fix it is FAR from being bad advice.

How about just drilling a hole through the plug itself?

Like I mentioned previously? Besides, if he drills it big enough, he can try a large "easy out" in the middle, and maybe that would cause it to implode some, so it would come out. That is after all or most of the water is out.
