Re: TV's prices

Really doubt that you will find a new digital TV for less, Zach.

I just bought a Polaroid 20" HDTV (1080i) for my office at Wally World for $259 and am very happy with it.

You might find better prices after Xmas, or you might just go to a hock shop and pick up an analog TV for under $50, then add a $40 adapter for digital.

It's too bad this year's "special sales" look more like last week's prices. Compare the ads from 2006 to this year's ads... where'd the discounts and good deals go? Looks like I'm going to sit this black friday out... the only place with decent deals this year appears to be CVS... as long as you shop there regularly and can take advantage of the savings coupons printed on the receipts before they expire.

Price is about right for a TV that will survive the digital thing without converter box.

Bought that same TV for my camper JB...I gave over 300 for it when i bought it..price has come down some on the HD sets.

There are deals out there you just got to look for them.
The rear projection LCD HD tvs are old technology and can be had at less than half of what they were a year ago.Although they are rear projection they are only about 18 inches deep and have a great picture.
We bought one for the bedroom a few months ago.It was originally 1999 and we got it at close out for 899. 46 in Sony.Picture is beautiful with the HD off air signal..

The Plasma tvs are now considered old technology (high power use and heavy) and i have seen some good deals on those.
Myself i would stick with LCD.

Even 1080 resolution is getting old.
I was reading on C-net or one of the websites that they have perfected a 2040 resolution and some even higher.
Its like computers...6 months old and its out dated..

Hold out for a little while if you can.
Just saw on the news that LG and 2 other manufacturers were caught by some US agency of keeping flat panel prices inflated. LG was slapped with a 400 mil fine.

Let's see where the prices of flat panels go now.:D

Up in Canada we see 27" tube tv's for $150 new on a regular basis. They even sell them at home depot. You can buy used 36" for a couple hundred.

If you are looking new and can take the wait, try using www.bizrate.com or shopzilla to get an idea of the online prices.

Otherwise try classifieds or craigslist.

Check the tuner in those sets. They are probably not digital. Manufactures are dumping all the non digital TVs in Canada. They can't sell them in USA anymore.

I just picked up two 19 inch color sets for free the other day. Both work fine. There not digital but, you can get two 40 dollar coupons from the government to buy a digital convert box that cost 45 bucks each.

I'll even give you a set. Just drive to MN and pick it up. lol

Do Americans own pawn shops? I thought they were all owned by middle Easterners, like convenience stores.

Check out craiglist. On the used boards, you can find decent TVs cheap if its simply a tube or low end. Then your only cost is preparing for digital as of Feb 09

I've seen 20" LCD TVs for under $200. (and that's Canadian $$$)

Re: TV's prices

Tons of great deals on TVs on Craigslist as people are putting their older TVs up for sale after they upgrade. Many are only a year or two old!
