Counter top still need to go but if you want to ease the eyesore paint the 1982 style golden oak trim everywhere. Floor, door, cabinets and the orange little rounded shelf. The door wood might look good in a black, adding a negative space look or a hand painted look to match the backsplash? Match the cabinet hardware to that odd single base cabinet you have to the rest of your cabinets even tho they have the pulls built in. If you decide to get rid of that shelf maybe square off the counter top below it.
That backslash will never go out of style. The oldest house I've owned was built in St Louis in 1886, have worked on many old ones and am a HGTV junkie but the thing I do and I try to steer my customers to is if I was cool 100 years ago, it will always be cool. Small trends, like green countertops, will come and go but subway tile, marble, etc will always be cool.
Worst thing for me to hears is something is 'on trend right now' both because it is proven to get dated and my ex wife was always having me do that crap....
