Hopefully it turns out as well as I think it will...
Anybody else brew your own? If so, what is your favorite recipe?
I use to brew beer now we do wine. I found rain water was the best for taste and I once phoned a brew master in Australia and he told me to use Cane sugar instead of corn sugar.
I stopped making it due to my son was taking it to bush parties under age.
AHHA, like you won't have done that at Anahiem lake in your teens,
Didn't your folks own the pub????![]()
Who me. When I was a teen, dad and my step mom watched the bottom line very closely. You see my brewing days go back a wile. Ever had Huckleberry wine.![]()
Even I am not perfect, but 2009? Things change so quickly in the brewing industry, two week old information is outdated! Yikes..
But thanks, I will read through them..
Things may change in the brewing industry, but the basics of making beer haven't changed in 1000 years, even if the big breweries continue to streamline their processes.
Are you trying to gain every tiny efficiency that you can so that you can blow your nearby home brewers out of the water...or are you trying to make good beer?
Sorry, but the main reason that 98% of home brewers invest the time is so that they can use the simple, tried and true methods of making beer. It even caused a small revolution in England when CAMRA got rolling.
The goal is to make better beer than you can buy.
Making beer and making bread share many similarities... , and the chemistry is very similar.
If you really think that any commercial bakery can come up with a loaf of bread that rivals what a good home baker will produce, you are wasting your time making beer...find a commercial brew that suits your taste and just buy it.
The fact if you are using sugar, whether cane, corn, or whatever, in your beer suggests that you aren't really that concerned about quality.
Wow Tim,
It seems as if you and I have a different view on things!
But of course that is what makes the world go around. But I can say, I am concerned with my quality, which is why I continue to ask questions.
Thanks for the links to the previous threads on brewing, they have been very informative.
PS, My Daughter In Law is the head formulation person for a major bread company here in the states, she comes up with some interesting breads that are quite good..
Sorry, didn't mean to **** you off with my response...

Huckleberries, you picked them right by the precipice didn't ya.
Let me clarify one thing, when I said I use raw cane sugar, it is only a tablespoon in the bottom of the 1 little bottle when I bottle the bear for the carbonation portion of the process, it is not throughout the whole process.
