Re: Which Color Scheme Do You Like ???

I say don't try to change it at all. It's a great looking boat and if it gives yout he nod from the admiral, then leave it alone. Her opinion is worth more than ours.

Personally I don't like the color scheme at all and I don't think that changing which color is the dominant color is going to make a large enough difference to matter. Just a waste of time/money.

+4 to change it up completely, but to make sure and complement what you have on the interior. Perhaps consider a wrap or decal to keep it reasonable and enable you to change down the road. Are existing graphics decals, gel, or paint?

I get the desire to stay stock, but IMO, Formula's boats are spectacular with the lone exception of their graphics from any generation. It just seems they are a bit fuddy duddy graphics wise, either old school Miami look or the basic single colored hulls which are almost too traditional for the beauty of their go fast boat heritage.

Though it would be easy to get cheesy, I lean towards getting a more classic speed look to the graphics without going over the top wild.

Say below in teal or purple and swap out Ducati for the Firebird Formula Logo?

Beautiful boat, congrats and enjoy.

I'm trying to stay with the original colors so that there is minimal work to do in making the change. Besides, the interior colors match the exterior, and that would be an expensive change (re-upholstering . . . ). The bimini is teal, so that is a consideration as well.
If you're not redoing the interior to match a major exterior color change then I'd stick with the interior colors you have. With the bimini being teal I'd go teal.

Where are you getting the graphics from?

Yup, the interior has all 3 colors in equal amounts stacked in the middle sections of the seat backs. . . I like the colors of the interior, because they are in equal amounts. So, no single color dominates. The exterior is where the colors are layered, so the one that is 'on top' is the dominating color.

I should also figure in how the bimini color would play into a color change. There is a 1997 boat on the market that has the Teal as the major color, and its canvas is the blue/purple, there is also another one with teal canvas. I have seen yet another one with purple as the major color and the canvas is blue. I guess Formula decided not to offer 'pink' canvas ;)

I have not decided where to get the the graphics . . . I could go with a vinyl tape material (i.e. pinstriping) . . . or . . . I could go with Imron paint, like the original colors.

Okay, so you've got the Miami Vice colors to work with, but so what? That's a gorgeous boat, no matter how it's trimmed. I'd go with the original colors and put it back in showroom condition.

X2 - Love the boat the way it is. It looks like a well taken care of older sport boat. If you were change it to red/black or something you would not get the attention like you will now, Everyone has a newer red/black or whatever color, This thing rocks the way it is and is in excellent shape, I wouldn't change a thing other than detailing it out to showroom fresh.

I saw a 87 Pachanga 32 at the marina this year and that thing was beautiful, Talked to the owner for 20 minutes about it. If it would have had a "newer" paint job it would not have had the same impact that it did "stock"

You know, there is another option that allows you to leave the interior as-is, but would still dramatically change the outward appearance. Plus, it would probably satisfy the "dating game" and that's to go with a combination somehow of a Charcoal/Gray/Silver. I'm always shocked by how nice what would normally seem to be "boring" colors look and you see it a lot on new production boats. Just a thought I had when I saw your thread pop back up.

Whatever you do, even if that's "nothing", it's still a real beaut so enjoy the heck out of it.

Hey, thanks everyone for your continued replies and ideas.

Since I do not want to open a can of worms with changing all of the colors and then having to address interior colors and Bimini color . . .

I am thinking that Teal is my best bet to diminish the Pink. I do like the purple, but it will probably not match well with the canvas.

As for a total color change . . . Probably should have bought a different boat. . . .

That might look very nice. A deep rich charcoal is rather elegant and will offset the pink nicely.

I agree with posts that suggest keeping it original, beautiful boat!

My pet peeve is the 80's and 90's colors done to extreme on boats. As thought the designers thought the colors would not date a boat in a matter of a few years. Even Cigarette has moved away from the over the top color scheme says this months Boating Magazine. I didn't catch the interior pics of your Formula yet but I will say they definitly held back on the hull which is nice. If I saw the pics of the interior I could say more. As it is Teal and Pink schemes are offputting to me and I like the purple but is the the best of three bad color choices. I'm with oldjeep until I see the interior.

Here is a picture of the interior . . . these colors are fine for me, because they are faily 'equal'

IMG_0956.jpg

It is the exterior coloring & design that favors one color over the others. . . .

IMG_1210_1680x1050-CC.jpg

The bimini is in the Teal color, as I had mentioned . . .

So, I think that a total color change on the exterior would leave things 'out of sync' with the interior.

Re: Which Color Scheme Do You Like ???

As you may know, I got this new (to me) Formula 330SS . . .

It is done in the "Palm Beach" color scheme . . . which includes a mix of Pink (aka Magenta), Teal, and Dark Purple. The hull has graphics using those colors and the seats have trim in those colors too.

My boat has the 'pink' as the predominant exterior color. I know that "pink is now in", but I'm not someone who wears pink. . .

So, I was thinking of changing the color scheme on my boat a bit to make one of the other colors the 'predominant' color . . . those being either teal or purple.

I wanted to get some opinions on the possibilities. Sooo, through the magic of modern technology, I created a few photos of what the boat would look like, if I changed the color scheme . . . Essentially, it would involve making one of the 2 background colors the foreground color and keeping all else the same. So, there are a few slight design variation between the alternatives that you may notice.

So here goes . . .

Now with Teal on top . . .

IMG_1210_1680x1050-AC.jpg

So which do you like???

Other thoughts/comments??? thanks for your opinions and ideas. :)

Ayuh,.... I just conferred with Deb,...

We both agree, the Teal is the way to go, considerin' the canvas is also teal...

Yup, you both are probably right . . . it would be the easiest color change and still keep me on the 'Miami Vice' scene.

All right then. If it isn't practical to do the custom look since the bimini and the interior are the way they are, I vote for pink. I feel like pink is more timeless than teal. The color screams outdated, where pink can just say I got a nice 33'er but have a feminine side too. Plus how often do you have the bimini up.

Nice looking boat as is, but I feel you want to change it up a bit so go with the teal.

Hey Ted, I haven't been on for a while. Your new ride looks like a winner. It sounds like you already have a plan but here's what I say. I agree with updating the 90's dance club colors.
I must be conservative, I'd go white with pink and gray stripes. I'd go white over the blocks that go vertically down the stern sides. Or if it won't cover I'd want to grey it out and leave just a little pink as a minor color. I'd just leave a little of the OE pink stripe with gray at the bottom, and a similar one up near the gunwales.
My boat is so old it was gelled before that stuff became popular, I don't know if I feel lucky or not!

Thanks for the idea NHGuy:

You know, I got the boat in Meredith NH. I'm not sure if that is close by your hailing port on Winni. Maybe you have seen the boat on the lake at some point. It was originally sold at Lakeport Landing in the Spring of 1996 and has been on Winni for the duration.

I'm not sure I quite feel the "interior and exterior would be out of sync" argument. The more times I see this boat the more dated and ugly it gets to me. I'd do something completely different on the outside and not worry about the interior being out of sync. At least that way the boat only seems dated if you actually get in it, not everywhere that everyone sees it. I'd probably change the interior too, certainly would down the road.
