    I can't see by the picture, but once you remove the dipstick, there should be no other tube involved. If there is, I would remove it and screw on your pump to the hose threads on the dipstick tub and pump away.

    You need to give the prop shaft or prop a little twist to get the splines to align. It helps to have the drive at the same level as the gimble housing - adjust by moving the trailer tongue up and down. Make sure the drive and the control lever are both in Forward.

    Just a safety note for a new boat owner. Never swim with the engine idling. Boats have been know to jump into gear, or others in the boat have bumped the shift lever. Always have the engine off when people are climbing up the stern swim ladder.

    There is a tube that the steering ram runs in that can get caked with old grease. I would clean up the old grease with kerosene and put in some new grease that is more fluid. I bet you have old grease that has solidified in this tube. It is worth a check to see if that is your problem.
